7x57 mauser

ok, I finally have brass & dies. I have rem brass and win brass. I have sierra 140sbt, 150sbt, and plan on buying some 120spt today. Do you guys have any pet loads using varget, h4831sc, imr4350, imr4895, or imr4064? I have read that most reloading manuals are light loaded due to all of the older military firearms, but I also don't want to blow anything up, more concerned about accuracy than speed. rem 700 long action if that matters.

Fryeguy, The best powder in my opinion is H414, check it out on Hodgdon page and you will se it gives high velocity and at low 45m CPU, the case and 700 are easity loaded upto 50m if i am not mistaken, (check the 6mm rem data for confirmation of this and you will see the same case loaded to 50m cpu), velocity from the case in a 700 modern action with new cases should exceed that on the loading pages and provide plenty of accurcy and hunting effectiveness

The h414 flows easily and is very consistant. higher loads are at the rise of the loader, be very careful what you do

imr 4350 does very well in mine with 140's up to 168's. I used 3031 with 130's with excellent results too. Loaded up to "modern" pressures in a commercial CZ action, it is no slouch as compared to 7/08 or 280 rem. The data from Sierra is anemic due to the old pre '98 Mausers originally chambered for the 7x57.

46.3 grains of WW 760 behind 162 grain Hornady A Max seated long gets me 2456 fps out of a 22 inch Ruger M77. Shoots quarter size three shot groups at 200. Really hammers deer.

Had a Ruger 77 in 7x57 back in the 1980`s. Great little rifle. Best load was H414 and Nosler 140 gr BT. Three shots in 5/8 inch at 100 yds. Chronod at 2850. COAL 3.035.

Throat lengths are so variable in the European metric cartridges that you will have be careful in using printed loads. That is why I do not want to give the exact charge of H414 that I used.

Nosler manual #6 has honest loads for modern 7x57 rifles.

Russ,
Welcome to the forum,I see you joined almost 5years ago and this is your first post :)
nothing like being cautious. LOL. I have the same gun as you with almost the same load. They are a underestamated round. Anyway again welcome and enjoy.
Wayne.

Russ, how well did the a-max bullets open up? how far have you used it to take deer? did you ever use lighter bullets?

On my rifle, 700 rem action, 140 Sierra fb around 49 gr of H4350. On 130 MK around 41 gr of IMR 4064. Both shot very well

Fryeguy, They open great. Have taken deer out to 300 Yds with them. I use the high shoulder shot and have not had to track any of the deer I have shot with them DRT.
