7x300 weatherby questions

Hey guys I got a buddy that has one of these and here soon he is gonna bring it to me for some load development with Berger 180's. I don't know anything about the gun whatsoever except that he used to shoot 168's and it shot pretty good and also I know from talking to him that fired brass is still 2 thou tight in the neck so I know I will be neck turning which ain't no big deal. I have done searches on here and found some info but really curious about different powders to try and good starting points. Curious about rl33, retumbo, imr7977, h50bmg, and us 869. Also curious about what velocities are obtainable with each. Any and all experience would be appreciated. I'm just tryin to get some ideas for when he brings the rifle to me. Thanks folks

Start at the lowest 7 mm STW listings . Sorry no coffee yet . I use to shoot this at 1000 in Pennsylvania . I shot h570 , still have 4 pounds .
More when I wake up .
Gary

I never shot 180s , I only shot the 168 gr.
I'd check twist and freebore before I went to such a long bullet .
Does it have the builders Mark , name ?

Yep ur advise for twist and freebore is on my list of first to do. All I know is when my buddy got the rifle built he asked his gunsmith to build it around the 168 Berger so other than that I know nothing. I will be learning a lot when I get my hands on it. I really hope to get the 180's to shoot but I don't want em stuffed so far in the case that the base of that long slug is pushin the primer out. Just a little humor. But thank u for the reply and if u think of more after coffee feel free to let me know.

Sierra used to have info in their loading guide. I am not sure if the newer ones do. Matt
Ok thank u for that. I know my newest Sierra book just has a page about it but no data which don't make sense but I got a few buddies that have some older manuals so maybe I could get something there.

The Sierra book had info on the one load used at the time ( 1973-76 )
All the data was using H 570 , If I remember correctly .
Mary Louise DeVito shot a world record with that load .
The gun she used was built by a smith in Pa. Howard Wolfe , again I'm going from memory , please forgive if not correct , coffe is starting to work .

I have that old Sierra Manual, no loading data in it. The article referres to a Handloader Magazine issue #87, Sept-Oct 1980

Good luck

I checked in QL and 7STW start loads are 7mm/300WM max+ loads.

Awesome. Thank you for your time looking up that data. Very much appreciated.

reloader 25 works good. I shoot 168 Barnes LRX. Gun has a lot of free ore and 3.6 box. Jumping almost .400 but will shoot sub .3. 80 grs will get 3270 out of 26 inch Hart 1:9.
