7mmWSM and Hodgon US869 and Ramshot LRT

Has anyone burned these powder in their 7mmWSM ? I'm shooting 184 Bergers 66grs of H1000 pushed them 3,000FPS out of a 26"Brux bbl

The simple answer, although written way late, is that these two powders are too slow to be used in any significant way. Sorry.

:(

I'm guessing you could probably fill the case about as full as you wanted, with US869, seat one of those 184's and you still wouldn't get to 3000fps. Of course, for obvious reasons don't go test that idea but you get what I'm saying. I've used a lot of US869 in 338 Lap Imp and 30-338 Lap Imp I can tell you first hand it's some slowwwwww burning stuff and my experience with it has been it needs a hot magnum primer and it does best when seating bullets very close to touch. In the two rifles I use it in if I'm not close to touching I'll get crazy high ES numbers. I always joke that US869 burns about like wet coal.

That Ramshot LRT powder is also a ball powder but I don't believe it's nearly as slow burning. If you could pack enough of it in your case and you were seating really close to the lands which tends to spike up start pressure it may do ok but I doubt it'll do as well as your H1000.

Are you looking to try different powders that are available and easier to get or considering different powders just to try something different? Another powder you could try and may be easier to find would be IMR 7828ssc or even regular 7828. Maybe even RL25 could be a decent alternative. They just won't be as temp stable as H1000 but if you're running low or out of H1000, that's one of those powders that's nearly impossible to find, and you still want to shoot it, you have to find something else that'll work.

I'm down to 1lb of H1000. I have an lb of LRT. I'll move the LRT into the back of the powder shelf. I wonder how Ramshot Magnum and V-V N565 would work.

I just shot the last of my 184s using VVN-565 with excellent results. I was using a 28" barrel but your results should be very close. You might see slightly slower velocities but the accuracy was right up there with the H-1000.

Give it a whirl and let us know how it works in your barrel/chamber.

:)

I recently tried some LRT in a 7mm Rem Mag. Everything I had read said it was closer to Retumbo than H1000 so I used Retumbo data and worked up. I have done several 7mm Rem Mags that have shot great with Retumbo and 168 or heavier bullets. I worked up all the way to 71gr in a Tikka T3x and was only able to get 2450fps out it with 168 Berger vld. The rifle shot fantastic at that load but wow it was slow.
