7mm08 powders

For those who shoot the 7mm08 what have you found to be the best powders for 162gr to 168gr bullets.I have been looking at the manuals and found they range a lot.I would be interested in a couple of good recipies.Thanks, Brad

IMR 4895 and 4064 just as in the 308 are wonderful powders for accuracy.

I have used 41 grains of Varget with 168 SMK. My most accurate load ever. I have no idea what the velocity was but it was completely in line with what one would expect from a 168.

Used to shoot 708 prone @600 Used several styles of 168 even tried 180 ( not enough boiler room) The barrels where 28" 1-8 kreigers. 4350 gave the most velocity and good accuracy. 4064 however produced the most X counts with all bullet types again and again. Good loading density with both powders

41 grains of Varget also works great for me with Sierra 168 gr. MKs ! Muzzle velocity from my Tikka 595's 23" barrel is 2600 fps. I use it as a ram load for HP silhouette.

You might take a look at W760. I use it in the .243, 7x57 and it's the only powder that will give a decent load in my Ruger M77 RSI in .308 Win. I got into that rifle on the cheap along with two more making them triplets because their previous owner couldn't get decent groups from them. It took a bit over two years for me to find that load and thankfully it worked in all three rifles. Groups were at least 1.5" consistently and a simple removal of a tiny bit of metal from the muzzle caps brought groups down to 1.25" on average. I'll admit they're not spectacular groups but a far cry from the 3.5 to 6" groups I got when I bought the rifles. Will I ever get any better groups? I dunno. I go with Murphy's second law. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They work just fine for deer. ;D
