7mm08 and 140 Pro Hunters

Anybody shooting the Sierra 140 grain Pro Hunters out of a 7mm08? Looking for performance on game. What are some favorite loads?

I prefer the Speer 145 SBT over the Sierra 140 or 150gr's in the 7mm-08 chambering for 'bou & sheep hunting.

I'm running Rem URBR brass necked to 7mm-08,so a load recommendation would not be feasable.

The pro hunter is not a bad bullet for game no more than 200 lbs. it will hold together better at close range than the game king. The lower BC will reduced its long range ability. As always, and contrary to some beliefs, bullet sellection should be made based on use and game and there really isnt a single all around bullet. Just be careful at close range on placement avoiding bullet blow up and you will be fine.

I have used it on elk and it is a fine bullet. I think the 120 PH is even better. For use on game under 200# be serious... At 7-08 velocities you cannot hurt that bullet.

I have a lot more experience with the 154 Hornady which I prefer but the 140 PH is a good bullet nonetheless.

I use 42 grains of VarGet with the 140s.

I killed a huge black bear with the 120 PH out of my 260AI last year and it as picture perfect at about 2850 Fps.

I have used 43g of ADI2208 (varget) cci LR under 140 prohunters. Killed deer to 200M good but I found 140 nosler ballistic tips grouped slightly better for me. These seem to kill well on the red deer I shoot but they do cause a lot of meat damage.

I don't have pro hunters, in 140s I use Game Kings and Accubonds, but I did get a very pleasant surprise this weekend. I've been using H4350 and not getting what I wanted. Went to the range with Varget with 41.* to 42.* grains loaded under Accubonds (not the new ones) Over my chrono from 24" Rock Creek barrel I'm getting consistent numbers right across 3000 FPS. I didn't expect that. Got under 1MOA at 200 yards with most of the groups. That's really flat shooting out of a short action non-magnum. I'm happy with the 140 class bullets in this cartridge.

Ballistic tips will expand more and faster. I like a controlled expansion that shoots through both sides. Accubonds do that for me.

43.5gr of Varget and the 140's are the ticket in my 7-08.

That's gotta be gettin' on out there.

I was really surprised at the MVs I was getting. This is a Rock Creek button rifled barrel from their group buy last yr at Snipers Hide. For some reason I started out thinking that I wanted to be able to shoot 162 in this rifle so I started loading with H4350. I realized that it was not giving me all that I could be getting from the 140s and tried Varget. It's good enough for hunting now but I'll do some more fiddling with mine and see where the node is, but anything over 2900 is great, and 3000 is fantastic with mid 42 grains. Based on all the load work I've done with a 308 I should find about the same sweet spot for all three of the 140s that I may shoot (Game Kings, Pro Hunters and Accubonds) I know it works that way in a 308 with 175s, 178s and 185s.

Try the 120gr TTSX. You can use that one on any game you might go after on this side of the world. Working on a load with 43.5 gr Varget...almost dialed in and can't wait to use it!
