7mm08 Ammo Question

I use the Hornady Lock n Load Comparator to measure ogive on my reloads. About to start loading a new load - Barnes 140 gr TSX. Just wondering if anyone has any BARNES VORTEX Factory Ammo in 140 grain and can provide the Ogive measure used by the factory?

Thanks for your time and help.

Do you have a to the lands measurement?
If so, take that and subtract 0.050" off it.
That doesn't work for me. When i measure for the lands I avg 2.3420 (10 bullet measures). That means I should begin with 2.2920 -- that makes my COAL 2.8200 and will not load in my magazine.

I really just want to start with the VORTEX factory ogive measure and save a few rounds if possible with seating depth.

The ogive for different manufacturers can be at a different distance form the base and can also vary slightly within one manufacturer's bullet. There are several manufacturers of comparators so this adds to the variance. In addition, your magazine may be too short to load to the distance you want.

Load to fit the magazine for a starting length then get your CBTO measurement.

OK - I think maybe I am being misunderstood... or making it too simple for someone to respond. I have been reloading since the mid 90's. I understand how to measure ogive. I also understand magazine length as it relates to bullet seating - that the "lands" may actually be further than I can load using generic "start here with seating depth" instructions provided by the bullet manufacturer.

I have measured manufactured ammo in the past to compare with my final COAL/CBTO once i find my sweet spot. However, I have never measured a factory load that is longer than maximum specs. In fact, the VORTEX I have measured in the past are shorter - much shorter. Having said all this, all i am asking is if anyone has the VORTEX 140 gr TSX factory ammo (I do not and cannot find any in stock to measure myself) and can measure a few and average the CBTO since I have found that VORTEX usually shoots fairly well and is a good place to start. This will save me bullets, powder, primers, and time.

Please, if anyone has this ammo and can post the average CBTO it will be greatly appreciated.

I apologize if my response seems out of line - just asking for a simple measurement - not instructions on how to...

Thanks

Seat to a coal 2.735(Barnes recommended coal) take your ogive measurement. And start your seating depth test there. I would think testing .050 +,- should give you useful data. Online ammo catalog only shows 120 gr bullet option.
