7MM WSM

Considering the fact that this brass has such a short neck....am wondering what you fellows might think of it? The bullets have to be so deeply seated to function through a short action magazine that in some ammo that I recently loaded the top of the boat-tail taper on a Nosler 150 gr. bullet was even with the large diameter of the case where it tapers down going up to the shoulder/neck juncture! I can't help but believe that in this configuration that accuracy potential would be dismal!

Thoughts??

Mine shoots great with berger 168's jumped .170" and feeds from savage short actions

Yes sir! Thanks for the reply! Mine is a short Savage action also. If I may ask....what's your load data??

Thanks!

I use 162 grain Amax in a modified AI magazine which gives me a COL of about 2950 and they shoot just fine, even the 180 Berger's shot great but they weren't at mag length, but were still seated very deep.

I load both my 7mm WSM and 270 WSM Kimber Montana's so that the 140 gr Berger VLD's fit in the magazines.

Both are the most accurate hunting rifles I have ever had. I have been doing this since 1953 (59 years).

On the last check at the range the 270 WSM made a 1.5" two shot group on the exact zero I want at 200 yds.

On the last check at the range the 7mm WSM made a 1" two shot group on the exact zero I want at 200 yds.

The COL of the 7mm WSM handload is 2.990"

When shooting the Berger 140 VLD Hunting bullets in my Browning X-bolt with a COL of 2.81" I have consistently been able achieve sub-moa groups. Now come December I hope to see just how deadly these pills are on muleys.

168's from my 26.5" rifle mover right at 3000with rl25. Could go faster but do not need to
Same load is 2550 from my 15.5" handgun. 140's from handgun wirh rl17 is 2930. Alliants data on their site is a good place to start

Mine shoots <1/2MOA all the way out to 720yds so far. I'll extend it further come spring. I slightly turn the necks to clean them up and I use a 0.309" bushing in my Redding die. It's scary accurate and easy to shoot.

7WSM
26" 5R Bartlein Barrel
Winchester CRF action (tuned & bedded by GA Precision)
65.80gr H1000
CCI BR2 Primers
Winchester brass
180gr Berger hunting VLD
2.2475" Base to ogive
100yd C/C 5 round group 0.116"
I'm sorry I don't have the muzzle velocity.
There was no pressure signs what so ever.

Elwood How did you modify the AI magazine to function with the WSM case and which magazine did you start with? I want to use a AI magazine with the 300WSM but cannot find one made for it. Thanks

Bill give me 24 hours or so and I will take a photo of my modified AI alongside a normal AI mag, I hasten to add I didn't do the conversion, but I'm led to believe it's not a major job.

My two favorite loads are 69grs of Re#19 behind a 139gr Hornady sst for about 3400 FPS and 65.5grs of Re#22 behind a 162gr A-Max for 3150 FPS I have zero problems with seating debth in a Win M70 Classic with a custom 26" Brux bbl.

The top photo is the modified AI mag, the lower photo is a standard AI mag. As you can see the forward plate has been removed to give more internal mag length and the lips have been widened to accept the WSM case. The lips are 0.495 apart.
