7mm velocities in F-Class

This thread is a question for those who shoot 600-1000 yd. F-Class with any variant of 7mm.

Obviously, this will probably have to come from e-targets. Some people however chrono loads at this distance.

I shoot a 6mm Dasher. The load is 33.7 gr. of H4350 Extreme. MV is 2820. 1K velocity is 1560. I had noted the guy next to me shooting a 7mm-06 using 180’s (Berger VLDs?) had a 1K velocity of 1660.

I understand I could look this up, but that is just a general answer. Some of you have custom chambers and throats and get better than book velocities. Looking for your MV’s.

Also looking for anything you do to help mitigate or control recoil.

I shoot a 7mm Shehane with either Berger 184s or Sierra 180s. (Wish I could find Berger 180s) I have found the best accuracy with muzzle velocity in the 2780 to 2820 range (depending on which 32in barrel I'm using). I had pushed the Berger 184s up to 2900 but the "high node" was very narrow and not reliable. Accuracy always trumps velocity.
As far as reducing recoil the heavier the gun the less the recoil. My F open gun has a RAD2 recoil reducer retrofitted with a lighter than stock spring that works really well. Hope this is helpful.

for most common 1k bullets your vel is SLOW

I know this thread is about 7mm velocities but I must concur with 6bra1k that your Dasher w/4350 is SLOOOW!!!
My plain Jane 6BR shoots the 105-107 class bullets at 2935-ish with 30grs of Varget, when I had a Dasher it shot the same bullets 100+ fps faster with 2-3 grs more powder.
I would try a faster powder than H4350.
That being said my 284 Win w/28" Criterion barrel shoots the 180 Hybrid at 2800 fps with 54grs of H4831SC, according to JBM 1000yd velocity is around 1700 fps, I shoot at approximately 2200 ft elevation in the AZ desert.

While you and F-Classinfo are debating 1k velocities, the question was, "What MV's are you getting. That is not a bunch of skewed factors. In most cases, most added: good shooters find their muzzle velocities. THAT is what I'm asking.
You must not have read my entire reply. I have gotten every one of those velocities.

I would agree that on given days, TV's are going to be different on different days. A simple fact of weather first, and ET set-up/surrounding terrain second. But, on a given day, they tend to be pretty close.

One Eye Pete,

That was very helpful. I agree without question accuracy always trumps speed. Consistency in calling wind is accuracy. Hoping one's faster bullet won't drift in the wind isn't the right approach, IMO. To clarify, it's not that I'm right, just not my approach.

Same goes for BC's. The better BC's of the 7mm always seem tempting to go back to. But, remaining consistent was my issue with them. The higher recoil pushed me off just enough that having to reset meant that I was a tiny bit different each time I came down behind the gun. Recoil wasn't punishing by any means, but wasn't conducive to my accuracy in F-Class. The guy that shot a 982 at the MI Regionals shot a .284, I believe. His MV to TV (1K) were right in line with the guy shooting next to me. I know the guy who took second was shooting a .284. He shot something like a 979,

I'll look into the RAD2, thank you.

You still seem not to be able to understand what I wrote. Go back and re read it.

Well Straight .284 with 180 HB Shoot that 2820 Node on my First Barrel did well High Master Card.

Just shot a Palma Match New Barrel and 2760 Node , First 448 score ..

The Difference Node ,Barrel or Indian ???
It does use less Powder for Sure.

Other than the weight of the rifle and the butt pad, I am not aware of anything you can do here. I use a 32-inch barrel to get muzzle pressure down as low as possible but frankly, I cant tell the difference between that and shorter barrels.

Instead of trying to control recoil, I get myself used to it by shooting my 30-28 hunting rifle and 338 often. Then, the 284 seems light and manageable. Every time I try to fight the recoil I hit a 9 or high 10. When I roll with it, the waterline is about as perfect as it could be.

I’m curious what 6mm bullet are you shooting? Your MV is slow but your 1K speed is quite reasonable for a Dasher. I shoot 109 Berger’s at 2985 and at 1K my speeds are about the same. 300’ asl.
