7mm Sherman short?

Sup guys?

I ordered a carbon six barrel chambered in Sherman 7ss for my Nucleus/Mpa build. It will be my first experience with a Sherman cartridge. Do any of you shoot this cartridge? If so how do you like it and what kind of numbers are you getting?

Thanks
Kris

I always thought this cartridge was way ahead of its time. Should be an excellent choice for 180-197 gr bullet choice
That's the bullet range I'm going to be pursuing. I have a 280 rem that I love but it just isn't up to the bigger stuff. I'm actually quite excited about this rifle.

I’ve had a couple of them. Great design and they are easy to tune and super accurate. Couple things to consider with them, definitely don’t believe the velocity hype over the 7 saum, comparing them side by side with equal brass life they are on par with each other. The standard 7SS reamer was designed to run in a true short action so if wanting to maximize case capacity it will probably need throated a bit. I throated both mine .065” for the 175 Bergers and 180 hybrids. With that all being said it’s a great cartridge and I’d definitely own another one. Good luck with your build.

I will be magazine feeding it but I would like to be able to single feed it longer stuff also. Like I said it's a carbon six 8 twist 25" long. I'm really hoping it's a good barrel. What would you do with the throat? I've heard carbon six are very easy to work with.

For hunting I would run a 180gr bullet. Easily get low/mid 2900's with great precision using RL-16 and not tax your brass (30" barrel but could get there with a 26" and still not overpressure the case). Several F-class shooters run 180 hybrids at 2850-lower 2900 fpm range in 30" barrels and shoot small groups. If for hunting you'll have lots of options for bullets powder.

As noted by @Shooter264 , if you want to run 180gr and up bullets, chamber your barrels with a longer throat. My freebore for the 180 hybrids is .250" and puts the base of the bullet just below the neck/shoulder junction (.015" off the lands) maximizing space for powder, if needed. When I ran the 190 A-tips I used a .325" reamer but that bullet is in a class of it's own on aspect ratio. Sherman Wildcats offer a .130" reamer which is what I would use for hunting bullets 175gr and under; if using the 180gr and up get a .230" reamer. It is a great and highly efficient cartridge with headstamped formed brass available.

It says this on carbon six' website.

Order Changes:

If changes are made that require manufacturing to be restarted after work has begun on your order, a 25% fee will be incurred and the estimated completion time frame for that order will start over. Order Changes would include a different twist rate, length, contour, muzzle steel length, shank threading, and shank steel length/OD. The chamber can be changed without restarting production as long as the caliber remains the same.

I think I will call and talk to them tomorrow and see what options they have.

Toms of info on the Sherman website and LRH. Always been tempted but never have taken the plunge. I think there’s been multi reamer designs for the Sherman Cartridges but I’m not positive, haven’t followed that line of cartridges much. Here’s some data off of his website, lots of other info on that website too.

Anyone know where I can locate the case dimensions, chamber dimensions and capacity of a fired round? I would like to load this info into my Gordon's Reloading Tool program.

Somewhat related, I just looked for the most recent 7SS thread… I tried some N555 with 180 Berger’s. It shot less than an inch of vertical at 460 yards across .6 powder charge. Extreme spread was 11fps for the .6 grain window
