7MM SAUM range results?

These numbers may seem a bit off and I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

I shot out to 1000 yards with this rifle for the first time today, the first time ive shot out to a thousand with a rifle somewhat worth a darn in my life actually.

7mm SAUM
H1000 at 67.5 grains...stuffed I couldnt get 68 :o but I tried
162 grain amax moly coated
wolf magnum primer
loaded 10 thou off lands
SIII 10x50x60
Primers were slightly flattened and bolt lift was normal as usual, no real pressure signs

Shot out of Criterion 9 twist 30 inch bull barrel on Savage Target action. Seven inch group at 1000 "not that great" three+ inch at 500 yards off the roof of my car with a sandbag.

I shot at 500 and 1000 after zeroing at 100 yards, results are as follows.

At 500 yards bullet drop was 35.24 inches with 100 yard zero
At 1000 yards bullet drop was 195.06 inches with 100 yard zero

The above 500 and 1000 yard data is what this program "Shooter" on my phone came up with at 3500 FPS.

My Chronograph said average was 3230 FPS but if I plugged this in my phone "program called SHOOTER" the data was way off from point of aim to point of impact.

If I plugged 3500 FPS into my phone, the data as far as clicks, bullet drop in inches were spot on with 3500 FPS plugged in. I had the auto weather updates on and everything.

I put 3230 (average from chronograph with ES of 19fps) into the "shooter" program and at 500 yards with 100yd zero, the 500 yard bullet drop is 41.8 inches and at 1000 yards with 3230fps in program bullet drop is 233.4 with 100yd zero

My range was also correct I checked it multiple times setting up a target to measure from every one hundred yards and double checked in multiples of 200 and 300 yards with laser range finder to insure didtance. I doubt im getting 3500 FPS out of this thing. Any advice is greatly appreciated, If anyone has good advice I know its someone on here. Thank you again.

my 6.5x47 lapua shoots much flatter than what the chrono and app shows it would also. I have a kestrel also and I keep a running update of everything twice a month. I usually don't shoot past 800 though. it gets better all the time and I make slight adjustments to the fps. it's a work in progress.

Did you have all the correct atmospheric data in Shooter? Are you using Density Altitude? Is your Sight Height correct? I've used shooter for over a year on 5 different rifles, 3 of these being rifles I shoot matches with, and it's never been wrong if all the data input is correct.

Using Shooter is not, or should not be a "work in progress". If you put the correct info in, all the correct info, it will put you on target at 1000yds everytime within .1-.2 Mils.

Mr Trevor Sir,

Im in the process of ensuring all my data is correct, im gonna go back and check my yardage also Sir. I love the shooter program and will continue to use it without question. Thank yall for the advice and I have to say im truly addicted to this 1000 yard shooting already. I think I can stretch this area out to 1300 at the most. Thank yall again

Chesty, I'm by no means a expert on the program, but if you need any help with something particular, feel free to PM me and we can chat over the phone. Also, there is a tutorial for the program that explains every aspect of the inputs and how to go about gettin them correct.

sorry bout that. i'm thinking it's prehaps my powder temps need messed with a bit. but all right. guess I'm a slacker. sorry to aggrivate you.

MOST powders do not need the temperature correction and I ALWAYS turn it off. There is not a 300fps decrease in MV from 75F to 60F as the program sometimes calculates, as I have tested it by chrony. I use H4350 and I've talked to Hodgdons about the temperature sensitivity and Shooter Ballistics in particular.

Hodgdon's told me there is no more than 20fps variation with my load in temperatures from 0-125F and he recommended to disable the temperature correction. Since I have done that I am within 0.25MOA on my come-ups.

I also use Varget and IMR-4064 for some other rifles and disable temperature correction and the results are pretty spot on for me. Extruded powders seem to be very stable, but you may want to call Hodgdon's on your specific powder to check the temperature sensitivity.
