7mm safety in old guns.

Ok so I am building my dad his first target gun for shooting groups for fun at the local range. I am getting the stock from thetallone on here. My dad has always been amazed at 2 inch or better groups at 100 yards for as long as I have known him. I have a 30 or 40 year old 7mm barrel blank that I was saving for a rainy day but this seems like an apropriate use. My question is what 7mm chamering would be safe and easy to load and accurate in a mauser 98 action. I did a search for 7mm on here and didn't find much info except on magnums and BC stuff. my dad rarely has the time to shoot and when he does he is not the type to burn barrels. This will also be the first bedding job that I will do on a non 700 action so any tips on that would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong with the 7mm-08. Good accuracy, easy to load and low recoil.

Just my $0.02!

7mm-08 sounds like it would do a great job for what I am looking for. A few more questions would be what is an efficient round in this chambering with the 1-10 twist barrel I have on hand? Not looking for hunting bullets just target stuff as the gun will be very heavy when done and to odd to carry in the field. And can 7mm-08 brass be formed from 308 without neckturning? I have loads of 308 match brass.
