7mm RSAUM vs 7mm WSM vs the others

AusFclass, after borescoping these 7 short mags using slow burning powder I've changed my mind. The next barrel I will have QPQ'd for extended barrel life.

what were your findings with the borescope?

so your going to stick with the 7 saum insted of going to the .284 with your next chamber?


now i have to sort out all the little details like brass, powder dies etc!!

I'm a F/Tr shooter, and we tend to get bored w/ barrels long before they wear out, but I've been tossing around the idea of a 7mm open gun for a while. I don't really want to move up to a magnum bolt face. Is anybody running a 32" tube on a straight .284, and did is gain you anything?

Charles Ballard used a 32" Broughton on his gun that set the 1000 yard F-Open National record.

I have used 31" down to 28 inch with the 284 Shehane and found that, everything else being the same, the velocity variation between barrels was greater than the velocity change from one length to another with the same barrel. Don't know if this is always true. I'd be interested in hearing what others have experienced.

GLC how did you get on with shehane once you got it?
