7mm Remington Magnum Brass Suggestion

I just got some Winchester brass in 7mm Remington Magnum that I had on backorder for the last few months and am pretty disappointed. There were many with heavily dented necks, but the larger issue is that a majority of the flash holes are misformed. When you look like down at it it looks like looking at a basketball next to a baseball. Even after deburring the flash hole it still looks misshapen. I am planning on using the brass for a mule deer hunt, but I also will be using it to shoot long range (600 yard) for fun, so I want it to shoot. Any suggestions on brass manufacturers? Are there better manufacturers or did I just get a bad lot?

For what you are wanting to do I would go with Norma or Nosler brass. The Nosler is sold in boxes of 50 and is very good stuff out of the box. I use Nosler in my sons .243 and also in my .300 RUM. The brass is slightly thicker in the case neck and will decrease the clearance in the neck area of your SAAMI chamber slightly. I have seen Winchester brass come thru as you are describing and its probably the nature of the beast as its mass produced. Still good brass but must be sorted and prepped. The Nosler only needs to be loaded out of the box.

I shoot Nosler brass in my 7 mm mag Tikka (little pricey) the brass is sorted for weight and inspected for defects.like 40 X guy said pull um out of the box and load um

I three love the Nosler brass for hunting cartridges. All prep work is done and the brass looks and measures great. It is more expensive but I believe it is worth it. It has held up well in my .300 Ultra and customers .300 Win Mags.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to send the Winchester brass back and get in line for the nosler. It looks like everywhere I checked it is back ordered.

Try the Gunstop in Excelsior, MN 952-474-0211 John had a bunch on the shelf Friday.

Tell him Scott and Buttercup told you to call.

Scott,

Thanks for the lead, but someone must have cleaned him out. I talked to John today and he said he was all out.

Try HDS. They are showing the NORMA brass for a few cents shy of $117.00 per hundred. They are a great company to deal with.

RWS has good 7mm Rem Mag brass, I got mine by buying ammo from Midway a $20 a box two yrs ago. I have used the newer Winchester brass and it will shoot sub moa @ 600yds out of my hunting rifle.
