7mm rem mag powder choice

I am looking to load for my new 7mm Rem Mag. I am planning on shooting a Berger 180 VLD Hunting. Don't want to waste a lot of time testing several different powders if I can get down to the best one to start with.
Thanks for any input

4831 seemed the winner for me in a few bullet weights and seating depths.

We have two loads for 180g Berger hunting and Nosler 175g LRAB:

R#22 at 2850

R#26 at 3050

What ever you do, don't over look the 175g Nosler long range accubond, easy to tune, deadly on fur.

It looks like all these powders are good choices but you will have to gamble to find the most accurate in your rifle, good luck.

I've used H1000 mostly with a lot of success but have also used a little Retumbo and 7828 with more than acceptable results.

I have a good supply of WC857 and WC870 on hand and these have performed well in my 7mm Mag. WC857 for the 160 class, WC870 for the heavier bullets. I get good velocity and more than acceptable hunting accuracy out of both. Icing on the cake - these pull-down powders can be had for less than $80/8lb jug. Good thing, too, 'cause you use a lot of it!

RL25 gave decent velocities, but accuracy was eh...
Groups shrank right up changing over to RL26.

For 175gr and up, Alliant does have some data with RL33, but i have not tried it.

My usual hunting load is RL26 with 150gr ABLR. With my Savage 111 using bipod & rear bag i once managed a 1.5" group of 3 at 600 yards.
The GODS were smiling upon me that day!
I haven't tried it since. ;)

What JLT said. We've shot a lot of deer with WC 860 162 BTSP Hornadys. 3000+ fps. Inexpensive for practice and plenty acceptable big game hunting accuracy. It shoots 180s fine too.

My son and I both shoot 7mm’s, my son’s is a Tikka with a 9.5 twist shooting the Berger 168 hunting VLD, mine is a Cooper with a 9 twist shooting the Berger 180 hunting VLD, both guns are loaded with Retumbo, it’s a very temp stable powder up here in Montana, both guns are 1/2 moa shooters. Been very content with how they shoot so never tried RL powders “yet”, not saying I wouldn’t be up for it!
