7mm Rem Mag concerns

So, I had a 7RM that someone offered to buy - I sold it. Good shooting gun but a few things that I just didn't like about it. I bought a Tikka T3 Ember in 7RM to replace it. I am impressed - this gun shoots. What is really amazing is it shoots the load I had worked up for the gun I sold. Didn't expect it to shoot the same load so well - target attached.

Problem though, I have lost 100 fps with the T3. Running about 2890 fps with a 150 TTSX. Previous gun ran 2990 fps. I know, barrels are different, and this is not to be unexpected. BUT, my problem is in trying to decide if I should chase that 100 fps I lost or leave as is, especially considering the accuracy. Does it really make that much difference since I have a 500 yard limit on taking game anyway?

My dad had a Tikka T3 lite in 7 RM and it was the same way if I recall. I want to say it was around 100-150fps slower than book, and all other 7 mags I have worked with over the years from various manufacturers. Not sure if it's a Tikka thing to run slow, or just a coincidence. Shot like yours did, just slow. Like a glorified 280, only burning 10g more powder for nothing.

Tikka barrels are infamous for being slow.
At 500 yards you are far more important than that 100FPS.

I've noticed that my Tikka seems to run faster with Lapua bullets. Coincidence? Different bullet to bore fit? No idea, but I was surprised.

My Tikkas always seem to shoot slower than expected. Being that it is new it may speed up some after you have some rounds through it. I'll take accuracy over speed any day.

Perhaps move out to at least 2-300 yds and see how you load is still working as there is a bit of vertical even at 100yds on a 3 shot group.
You want to know that the load won’t let you down at 500yds.
My 280AI will shoot 5 into an almost “0” - .25” group at 100… 5 Berger 184’s at 2’820fps
Not a Tikka barrel however… 1:8.5 twist
