7mm Rem Mag 22" Barrel Suppressor

Picked up a Browning 7mm RM (suppressor ready) with 22" barrel. Using my "normal" suppressor with the 7mag I noticed increased pressure and slight bolt lift tightness well before maximum powder loads - using RE22 and H4831sc.

On my last outing to the range, and on my 5th shot, the suppressor "blew up," sending 2/3 of the internal baffle section approximately 110 yards down range. Scared the crap out me and the older gentleman sitting to my right. Complete weld failure and baffle strike. I believe the weld must have been suspect as I was getting excessive heat mirage from the suppressor by the third shot. Again, about 2.5 grains below maximum load as I had already run pressure check with ladder testing and was not pushing to find pressure.

I have another suppressor that I use with my 7-08 and 30-06 and it is great with them. Took it to the range with the 7mag and it heated up quickly as well. Kinda shy of using it any further with the 7mag.

All of this to say that it my google searches it seems that the shorter barrel does create more pressure. So, what google doesn't find apart from general info when I ask about suppressor for short barrel 7mag, I turn to the wisdom of this group for help...

What is the best suppressor with a 22" barrel? Something that handles pressure better than others?

BTW, my suppressor is back with the manufacturer.

By chance was your suppressor that blew up a Silencerco Scythe Ti? They are famous for blowing up. Ive had one that blew up in 300 rounds between a 25 prc and 300 wsm with mild loads in each. The replacement lost a wire strand or something from inside the suppressor recently. A wire strand fell out after I shot it a few range sessions ago. Waiting for it to blow up again. Im not using it on any of my hunting rifles anymore. Ive had several customers and friends that have had their scythe ti cans blow up also. Not baffle strikes in any of the instances. Just too thin of a wall on the can and bad welds. The wall of the can is like .025 thick.

If a guy wants a very light suppressor that wont blow up the Unknown Suppressor's Reaper is the one to get. 3D printed Titanium can with no welds to fail. Ive heard their 3d printing machine was 7 figures. The reaper starts out at 8 oz. You can do direct thread or take the adaptor out and throw any hub adaptor in it. Im personally using it on my 22" 300 norma improved. I did the HUB to TBAC cb adaptor. Im using a 1 oz CB titanium brake from Salmon River Solutions. You can put a 2 port directional brake on the end of the suppressor if you want that SRS makes as well. I use the 2 port brake for anything 7 prc or bigger as the recoil reduction and muzzle rise difference is very noticeable vs just a regular end cap with no suppressor. My Reaper with 2 port brake on the end and titanium cb mount is 10.8 oz. Unknown has done several tests and didn't have a failure. One of the tests was 40 rounds rapid fire down a 20" 300 RUM. The carbon on the barrel delaminated due to heat. But the can was fine.

After testing the reaper on my 300 nmi out for a while I ordered up a bunch of reapers and theyve been selling as fast as they can come in. I have the TBAC Magnus RR in the S and K lengths. For a hunting rifle I prefer the reaper as its substantially lighter than the tbac rr cans. Like 8 oz lighter than the K length once I add the SR brake weight to the tbac can. The reaper is also almost half the price of the tbac magnus rr SR line. My return to zero when taking the reaper on and off hasn't changed. And the 300 nmi is shooting in the .1s and .2s at 100. My last 900 yd group was 2.0". Cant find the pic but I shot a 5" group at 1200 with it also to confirm drops/kestral further out than 900. Would of been less but the last shot got taken by the wind a little. And before you guys give me crap for a 22" barrel on a 300 norma improved I still have enough energy and velocity with the 245 LRHT berger for elk out to like 1300 yds which is further than Id shoot at one anyways.

I have 5 Thunderbeast cans. Ultra 7 30's and 338 Ultras and a Magnus RR on order. Ryan's above advice is great, he is way more up to date on some of the new offerings. I am very comfortable recommending TB cans as they have been the industry standard for years. My advice is you get what you pay for. Lots of bargain cans out there and they don't hold up.

PS: Ryan get off the net and get my short 300NMI barrel finished! LOL!

Do you notice if there is increases noise when you use the brake vs when you don’t?

yes. its a little louder with the brake on the end. in a lightweight rifle setup with cartridges roughly the size of a 7 prc and bigger the brake on the end is worth it due to doubling the recoil reduction. my ears dont ring afterwards and its only a few shots per year ill shoot it without ear pro. for stuff smaller than 7 prc the brake on the end isnt worth it so i put a regular end cap on the end of the can and its a few decibels quieter.

Unknown also has an over the barrel suppressor that will only add 4" to your barrel. I don't own and never used a suppressor so I can't speak about which ones are good.
