7mm-o8

Hi Guys,

I am working with 2 rifles in 7mm-08 caliber.
One rifle has a 1 in 8.5 twist Krieger @24 in. the other has a 1 in 9 twist Lother Walther @ 22in. Both are lightweight barrels.
I have done some limited load development and both rifles show pretty good accuracy.
Loaded up some 120 ballistic tips and 140 accubonds over Varget, 760, and IMR-4350.
I am wondering what powders you 7-08 fans prefer and what bullets seem to show the best accuracy in both hunting and target styles.
I know every rifle is different I am just looking for a "in general this or that works".
Thanks for any info!!

Hey, you are there as far as I'm concerned. 760 is my go to with 140 Gr. I get best results with the CCI 250 Primer. 4350 ought to work too, but you'll have to compress the load pretty good to get max velocity.

Varget does good with the 120 Grain. I've had great results on our smallish whitetails with this bullet. I use just a plain remington primer here, but I'm sure others would work too. Just because I'm lazy and like to throw charges without weighing, I'm using H380 in my 120 Grain loads. It meters like water and gives good velocity and accuracy for me.

If I was out to try something new, I'd try RL 15 or the new IMR 4007.

Varget and 140gr Accubonds are my choice. Killed a pig this last weekend approx 180lbs, complete pass through on a broadside shot through both shoulder plates. Outstandind accuracy out of my TC Encore.

I've been using Reloder 15 with 120gr. VMax and the Barnes 120gr. TSX.

I killed a bull elk and a mule deer with the Barnes 120gr. TSX. Great penetration and performance.

For target work, I have one rifle that likes 43.5gr Varget in WIn cases, turned for neck clean-up) using Federal 210M primers and 130gr SMK's seated 10/thou out of the lands. I've tried this load with up to a 10/tho jam and it seems to like a slight jump better. OAL for 10/thou jump is 2.812' with this bullet in this chamber.

In another sporter for hunting, I shoot Nosler 140 gr Nosler Ballistic tips in Win cases and above max loads of Varget, also using Fed 210M primers. This load is seated to 2.80" OAL. I won't quote the powder charge as it's significantly over Hodgdon and Nosler book max and may not be safe in your rifle. I've shot the same load in Federal cases with good results as well.
