7mm magnum improved

in your opion how much velocity do you think you can get by putting a 40 degree shoulder on the remington 7 mm magnum case?i am not talking about the ultra mags.
bullets of interest are 160 to 175.

The 7mm Rem Mag has a 25 degree shoulder but a fairly straight case wall. You might gain 3 percent. I think you would be better suited by leaving it alone. Put a 40 degree shoulder on it and you might find using a magazine might become a PITA.. For the very modest gain, and the possibility of feeding "problems", I would just leave it as is..

After looking at the case print I doubt that you could get quite 3 %, but if you could, at best you would get a 1 1/2% increase in velocity. If you are pushing a 160 gr. bullet at 3,000 fps. you would get a 45 fps. increase in velocity. The rule of thumb is that you get an extra 5 yards in max. point blank range for every 100 fps. increase in velocity. Hence you would get around 4 1/2 yards increase in max. point blank range. With a max. point blank range of 360 yards. now, it would move clear out to a whopping 264 yards.

If you need more speed there's easier ways to get it. The very first thing is sorting out reloading dies. A 7-300WM is the first thing that comes to mind. A 7-308 Norma(longer neck) would be good also if the die issue can be resolved.
