7mm-338 lapua, vs 30-338 lapua... scold me!

338 lapua brass pushing a 195 Berger

338 lapua brass pushing a 230 Berger

98-106gr RE33 or H1000

35 or 40 degree shoulder.... on either...

What yall think? Or am I just barking up a tree with no coon in it? As I already have the 338 Lapua custom build going... just was thinking about another barrel to switch out with...

Ive heard norma mag anything doesnt last long...?

my experience is RL33 for speed or H1000 for consistency and low, single digit SD in that case. I recommend the 8.5 twist Brux for the 230 hybrid. I haven't pushed mine as the first load I used for barrel break in was 2-3 inches at 600. So tuning seems simple. There is plenty more speed left in mine and I'm at 3100fps out of a 30" tube and H1000. Recoil is mild compared to 300 gr Bergers in 338 Lapua. I would have never guessed it would be such a difference. Quickload says 3250+ with a full load of RL33. I have no reason to doubt it.

Go look at the Allen mags. Kirby Allen has a line of mags based off the 338 improved. May also look at a .284 jazz. I believe SSG has done a lot of work off the 338norma case

My 2 cents says try the 338 Lapua Mag custom you have before you venture down the 7mm or 30 cal. road. - You'll be locking at a substantial investment in dies and possibly reamers to start adding other calibers. - I don't know what your purpose is for the cartridges but IMO 28 Nosler is about as much case capacity as is necessary in 7mm bore. - The 30 cal. would be the one I'd chose if your going to expand. - and I understand that because Lapua makes good brass in .338 caliber it's hard to resist. - Good Luck & Good Shooting - Ron -

True.. the 338 lapua will kill anything... I just like to play... lol.

A R.A.D. recoil pad system would prolly be a better investment for this rig.... haha
