7mm 180 vld but may try 175 accubond lr

been shooting 67.32 grs of h1000 in nosler 7mm rem mag brass with 180 vld in 2980ish fps range,,, using a custom rifle with a 1:9 twist. got a bull hunt in the fall,,, thought i might switch to the 175 ablr for hopefully more of a punch.

anyone got experience with both bullets. i also have the 184 bergers on my shelf. i'm looking at both accuracy out to say 750 yds and knock down power. i could switch to retumbo if it would really make a difference.

thanks for any advice

I use the Berger 180s with re 26, great accuracy at about 3080fps. Haven't shot much with the 180 yet......but did drop a zebra and waterbuck with them in february, the zebra dropped on the spot.....very rare, and the waterbuck went about 40 yards. Neither shot was over 300 yards......but man those bullets seemed much more effective than the 168s I have used for many years.

I hunt with the 180’s, only taken whitetail but I am going to Co in the fall as well for an elk hunt and have 100% confidence in the 180’s. I’m running them 2830 out of a Shehane hunting gun

I'm running lighter.

For the Bergers i'm using the 168gr VLD-H.
For the ABLR i'm using 150gr.
Both over RL26.
Rifle is Savage 111, with action bedded.

The Gods smiled on me one day with a 1.5" group of 3 at 600 yards using the 150gr ABLR.

I've had just the opposite with the Berger VLD-H. Have performed very well on game for myself & daughter.
Both in 7mm-08AI and 257 Roberts.

They do exactly as advertized.
1-3 inches of penetration, then come apart.
Massive internal damage!
No meat lost.

I’ve had poor luck with bergers on game
Im going to use the ablr this coming year with hopefully better success
I have used a Berger for years on various type of game. With good shot placement I have had nothing but success. With a .308 I shoot a 185gn juggernaut and had never had a white tail take a single step. I am running a 180gn VLD-H in the 7mm mag for a mule deer hunt in Montana in the fall, haven't taken any game with it yet but having great result with accuracy from a bag and bipod running 2700 fps with a muzzle break. I run a 208gn hybrid in a 300WM also with outstanding result on game. Longest kill shot was 625yds and dead drop on impact.

Me and my 5 buddys have taken over 50 animals in last 6 years. Deer and elk everybody limits out. Out of that 1 made it 45yds hit a little back the rest were DIT dead in tracks! I shot a 300rum in africa with 210vlds and droped 16 animals with shots out to 510yds. I also won a shoot in 2018 with my 7mm mag and 180 bergers as i was only guy to hit 18in plate @ 1820yds!
