7mm-08 reduced loads w/ IMR4198

Yeah guys, I'm looking for some advice for 100-120gr bullets with IMR4198. The Speer manual gives reduce loads for the 308 Win using IMR4198 with 110-125gr bullets, the kids enjoy it. I was wondering if it's safe to use these same loads in my 7mm-08 using 100-120gr bullets? Thx for your help...

Provide the exact load data you are using in the 308 and then we can review the load data Speer provides for the 7mm-08.

H4895 is better for reduced loads.
Start at 60% of max charge weight and go up from there.

Depends on how much you want to reduce your loads, Speer lists 18 to 22 gn. of SR4759 in a 7 x57 case for 1660 to 2000 FPS with a Speer 130. Check the Accurate Arms data for AA 5744 , also, search Trail Boss powder, high loading density and low FPS.

I have loaded the 7-08 with 21 gr 4198 and either Sierra or Hornaday single shot pistol bullets. Works well on whitetails with little recoil. Worked well for my step-daughters. I would put a pinch of polyester filler in to keep powder at rear of case. They shot hundreds of rounds of this with no problems. Shot under an inch .

Hodgdon lists a reduced 7mm-08 load with IMR-Trailboss...

7mm-08 Rem.
Remington brass
Remington 9.5 primer
24" barrel
2.750" coal
Swift 140 gr SP

TRAILBOSS

Start : 11.0 gr = 1,211 fps, 36,200 CUP

Max : 16.0 gr = 1,472 fps, 43,300 CUP

This trailboss data would make for very minimal recoil for the kids.
