7mm-08 real world results

There have been a few posts re the 7mm-08 and various load/target results. Looking for real world data from those shooting this round, especially the 120, 140 and 160gr bullets. For those using this caliber, what have your actual chrono numbers been with various bullets/loads in this range? Thanks, Matt.

120's at 3175 and 140's at 2950 in a 23 1/4" Rock tube, both loads with H-414.

The 120 Ballistic Tips are my go to bullet, having tested them to 500, and do all that I ask. I haven't tested with anything heavier, as I don't see the need.

alf, have you used the 120s on game? If so, how did they perform?

They don't get much deader than that.

Was hoping more folks would chime in with load data and chrono results with various powders, charges, bullets/weights, col, barrel lengths etc.

PM if you prefer with any 7mm08 questions. It just may be a week before I could answer any load details as I'm just in the process of moving house. I've done extensive testing with bullet weights up to 180gr so should be able to answer most questions.

Loads shot out of my Savage M11, 22" sporter bbl.
Shot at 100yds.
Rem 9 1/5 primer & cci 250 LRP
139g hornday interlock, 44g w760 2.800 col, .980"
120g NBT, 43.5g varget, 2.800 col, .550", 2987 fps
120g NBT, 43g w748, 2.800 col, .850", 2886 fps

140g Sierra JSP, 43.6g w760, 2.750 col, 2700 fps, .990"
140g N Patition, 41g Varget, 2.750 col, 2700 fps, .900"

I have not hunted with it yet, just working loads up so far.
Its pretty darn accurate with 120g & the 140g bullets.

I'm watching this thread. I am in the process of building a 7-08.

I just screwed on another 7mm tube for 1000yd BR HV and working up loads. I am tinkering with a recipe that a friend on here gave me. A low node on a 284 imp. = 48.5 grns of Varget and 180 hyb. 2625 fps. Not fast but pretty good accuracy. I think of it as a hopped up 7-08. (The high node was 56 var. 2900 30" barrel)

I would like to here what people are doing with a 165 or 170 class bullet in a 7-08.

I think the bullet to work with in this range for target shooting is the 162 Amax, but it's long. Might be problematic for seating at mag length. I too am in the process of a 7-08 build. Waiting for my barrel.

I replaced a shot out Shilen 24" 7-08 with a Broughton 8 tw 260 rem. I have hunted 2 seasons with the 260, and can tell you I will be going back to a 7-08 when the Broughton is done. I have killed 2 big deer with the 260 but have had erratic and sometimes very poor bullet performance so far with the 260. I'm going to work up a load for the 125 partion and shoot it until the rifling is gone, no more Ball tips for me. I used the 145 Speer BTSP in the 7-08 and fell that is the perfect bullet for it. I had several plus 300 yard bang flops with it on large bodied muleys. Good luck with yours..

Great information- thanks to all who have posted so far.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning a med-long range hunter. I've decided to go with the 7mm-08 and am planning to use a long actiion so that seating depth isn't an issue in the mag- still need to decide on a freebore dimension. Would like to use the 140s and 160s without using up too much powder capacity.
