7mm 08 Brass

What is the best brass for reloading this caliber?
All I have found is Remington so far, and Lapua does not make any. I picked up some Rem's and would like something better if it's out there.
Thanks.

I was putting a Encore 7mm-08 together last year, I found some PRVI, it is very good brass. You can also neck up Lapua 260.

You could neck down Lapua 308 brass.

I've never necked down any brass before, never had to.
What all is involved in doing it?
I would do it for the Lapua quality.
I've heard some complaints with the Norma brand being inconsistent and dented on arrival.

The move from .308 to .284 is not that far, I would just run them through the 7-08 die.

I like the norma brass. I use a few different caliber a in it. I run Winchester and Hornady brass in my 7-08. To make 7-08 out if 260 or 308 just run the brass through your sizer. You'll need to fire it because the 7-08 shoulder sits farther than 308. Not a big deal. I honestly like Winchester and Hornady better than the lapua. Hornady has almost 2 grains more capacity. I just checks some last weekend after sizing and trimming.

Necking down Lapua 308 works but you end up with short necks, and can cause some carbon buildup in your chamber. Norma has been good and the Nosler custom was super consistent as far as capacity and thickness goes. I don't see an issue with dented case necks, just run them through your sizing die and they are back to spec. If you do neck down 308's you may consider annealing them when you're done, mine got horribly work hardened after a couple of firings and neck tension was all over the place. Once I annealed they settled right down.

Also, if you have a tight chamber and use thick 308 brass necked down you can run into some serious pressure issues. Just be aware and measure a dummy round vs one fired case from your chamber to make sure the necks have room to expand.

Are you using the rifle for hunting or competition? For hunting the Remington brass would be fine. I used the lapua 308 brass necked down for my f-class rifle
And it worked great. Any of the custom brass is good...cost may be a factor for you...don't know.

Thanks to all, this is the kind of info I was looking for.
I will be shooting some competition with it, but will also hunt with it as well.
Cost is not really an issue that would deter me from using the better components, because in some instances, you get what you pay for.
I prefer to pay up front, and get the results and use out of my purchases.
I will be shooting an Browning X Bolt in some configuration, just waiting for the Shot Shot specials to be announced.

Just another thing .....if you choose to neck down lapua brass like I did turn the outside necks down .0015 before you load them and then anneal just to help with fireforming...you will get a better result...Good luck...by the way my 7-08 shoots great!!
