7mm-08 120 gr Ballistic Tip

Worked up a new load for my 7mm-08. First load is with 140 TSX. One amazing result is that both of these loads are hitting target is same area so I have no real scope adjustment to make.

I have been a BIG Barnes Bullet user for many years but thought I would try the 120 BT after reading so good experiences people have had. I do like the extra FPS I'm getting and the down range energy is a little higher with the 120 BT.

I can use either bullet for any large game I will ever hunt. Would love to hear more of this groups experience with the 120 BT.

Many years ago I loaded 120bt in two different 7-08s using Fed lg rifle and h4350 Tack driver! Never fired more than 1 shot on MANY whitetails!! Also loaded them in the 7-30 waters for a T/C 21 inch carbine brush gun same excellent results as a matter of fact my youngest son layed two nice bucks side by side with the T/C . Two shots 20 seconds apart two one shot kills. Imo one of the best bullets made for whitetail size deer and the 140 ABLR is a hammer on Muleys!

My friend and mentor, Darrell Holland put me on to the 7-08 Ackley about 25 years ago. Built mine on a Ti action from Prairie Gunworks in Winnipeg; it's a M700 clone with a 24" ss Canadian made barrel.

Many bullet weights and styles were tried, but at Darrell's suggesting, I finally settled on the Nosler 120gr BT, as it groups under 1/2", and every muley buck shot with it has not gone farther than ten feet after being hit. Velocities run just under 3,400 fps using Varget.

The rifle about duplicates my pet .270 Win 130gr load, but with a short action and less powder for about the same downrange properties. Being a Ti actioned rifle, it also weighs only 6.8 lbs loaded, scoped and sling trailside. The rifle in this caliber has become my go-to game rifle. Wish I had built one up back in the 70's!
