7mm 06

Hi This might be a stupid question I just don't know the answer?

A bud of mine is having a gun built it is a new custom barrel based on a 30/06 necked down to a 7mm.
What does that make it?
Does anyone stoot this in any competition?
If so how accurate is that round?

thanks Link

my guess is it's a short necked 280 Rem.Why not just have it chambered as a 280 instead. No hassles with odd dies,or reamers

Well the 280 is pretty dog gone accurate. Don't see how to improve on it unless you went to a 280 AI. Bill

7mm-06, aka 285 OKH,7-06 Mashburn and probably a few other names is an old wildcat from the early - mid '50s. Performance wise its in the 7x57-280 Rem class. It has a slight brass advantage over the 280 Rem which is .050" longer at the shoulder than the 30-06, so simply neck up 270 Win brass or neck down 30-06 to make 7-06s.
