70gr hornady Spire point on deer

I have a 12 twist dasher with a short barrel and it is giving me stability fits with the 85gr Sierra. The miller stability on the 85 is 1.2 the target agrees. I have some 75gr hp and some 70gr spire points. What are your thoughts on expected performance on deer lung shots with these? 200yds and under.
Assuming they shoot.

Do a bullet test by setting up water filled milk jugs at 50 and 100 yards at least 3 deep, or wet news print or magazines. Sometimes the results are astonishing but always interesting. Barlow

Hornady shows that as a varmint bullet only in the Seventh Edition reloading book. I'd call them and ask, I'm sure it's been done before.

The 85gr HPBT Sierra is one of the best "Deer" and Varmint bullets made....and one of the most notoriously accurate. Of course the twist rate, shooter, reloading, speed, etc need to be proper too.

The 70 spire points will work as will the 75's. But your range, shot selection and bullet placement is going to HAVE to be as perfect as it gets. JME. WD

I tried some flat base 87gr Hornady SP just for giggles. 1 hole 3 shot groups! The Sierra must just be over the edge! Somehow the hornadys are a little faster too.

Somewhere between Nil and 0% chance of that stabilizing in a 12 twist tube at 2900fps. Copper bullets are longer than lead ones. Length is the issue not wieght, on stabilization and twist rate.
