708 & Staball 6.5

found some . says on the label it will work in the 708 .found that 47.6 gr ,139 btsp hornady ,remmington 7 1/2 primers starline small rifle brass . gave a less than a 3/8 inch grouping . i places 3 thumbtacks on a paper plate @100yd one shot each and i need to get more thumbtacks . gun is a UPR 10 22'' barrel .
a week later i was back out to the range with a few different loadings with different bullets different powders .ho-hum at best . i had one cartridge left from the week before of staball 6.5 , put up another thumbtack and killed it .

I have used it in my 7/08 custom Kimber 24" barrel. Worked up to a load of 51 grs using the 145 Speer SBT and all seemed good. Went 1 gr more and blew a primer. I then backed off to what I will call a max load in my rifle of 50 grs for a velocity of 3012 ft/sec with MOA accuracy. I guess what I am trying to say is I feel this powder spikes real fast so keep this in mind when working up your load.

I found Stabell 6.5 to work great in my 7mm/08. 51 grns. with a 120 Hornady gave me 3001f.p.s. with a s.d. of 2--- 50grns with a 139 Hornady gave me 2897 with a s.d. of 6--both loads group very well from my Tikka Hunter with 22'" barrel. I've tried Varget, RE-17, RE-19 ,4064, They all shot good, but the Stabell 6.5 gave me the best groups with the highest velocity.

145 gr bullet at 3000+ fps is 270 / 30-06 territory. I d say it’s a max pressure load. Sounds like it s shooting good.
I ve always ran the Hor 139 btsp at 2900 fps in various 7-08 s. Short bearing surface and always been accurate.
You have a high performance load!

Yes I would think this to be a HP load although it matches up good with Hodgdon's data, even 1 gr under their max of 51 grs.
