700 short action feed rail comparison pictures 223 vs. 308 action

Here are some picture comparisons off a 223 (blue) action vs. a 308 (stainless) action.

Notice

1) the 308 rail cut out (larger section the round passes through as it’s feeding up into the chamber area) is longer than the 223 rail cut.

2). The cutout on both is “angled” to help feeding - HOWEVER the 223 rails beyond the cut out area are flat - which could inhibit feeding if you try to use a 223 Short Action 700 without modification. The 308 action has angled cuts the length of the rail.

Extremely "timely". Am dinking around with a 700 SA project. And as they say,"a picture is worth....

Thanks for posting.

Sorry I was off line a couple of days - yes rails matter... the ramps not so much.
I read using a single stack mag adaptor fixes the issues but I haven’t built one like that yet so I can’t confirm it.

I was thinking about taking a couple 223 SA’s and converting them to 308, but as you can see the feed rails would need to be adjusted... I haven’t done measurements yet, but the pictures say a lot.
