700 Remington bolt handle attachment

This morning while getting my old 700 ready to sell to a friend the bolt handle came off. This is the second time it has done this. I had it soldered back on by my local smith two years ago and it obviously didn't hold. My question is, is there a better way than soldering ? Can the handle be pinned and soldered ? I sure am glad I didn't deliver this to him and have it fall off and I don't trust the rifle at all now. What are my best options other than buying a one piece bolt ? I'm not a Remington fan so I don't want to put a pile of money into this but I can't in good conscience sell it without being sure it's right.

Take it to another gunsmith that can solder properly. They usually make it 50+yrs. or send it to dan armstrong on here to fix it right permanently if you have the time

Dan Armstrong ? If I had a local smith I believed in I'd take it to him but I don't. I guess I need recommendations on who to send it to.

So Dan Armstrong it is then. I sent an email asking but does he need just the bolt body and handle or does he need the firing pin assembly also ?

Any decent gun smith can time the bolt handle. If they are using solder that is the problem. Make sure they use silver braze.

He will tell you what he needs, probably a measurement on timing cam and just the bolt. His website http://www.accu-tig.com/ shows the bolt handle options and lifetime guarantee. Usually processes in a week including delivery, (at least to Wyoming).

There is more than sticking it back on. BOLT TIMING Send it nto Dan Armstrong.
Dans the man. Said it many times. You will not be unhappy. I'm a gunsmith but when it comes to bolt handle attachment and timing, I send my stuff to Dan. To say any gunsmith can time a bolt handle is looking for failure. Those who know gunsmithing either can or Dan, simple.

+1 more for Dan. A guide buddy of mine had a client have a Remington bolt handle come off when he needed to fire a second shot at a big interior grizzly. :-[ When the military builds a sniper rifle, the bolt handle gets a wee bit of TIG just to make sure there isn't an "OOPS" at a the wrong time.
