700 Rem bolt mods

Looking for a smith to do bolt work (rem 700) Install Sako type extractor, in 308 bolt face,, that will extract PPC cases.. Approx cost and turn-around. Thanks

I sent mine to Greg Tannel (Gre-Tan ) and besides what you want I had him bush the firing pin hole and turn down the firing pin tip so it would handle higher pressures. I think most members who are familiar with Greg and his work would agree that he is one of the best. Remember that I had more done than you want and he charged approx. $250 and turnaround was about 3wks. .

Greg does great work and has done quite a few bolts for me, but be aware that his scheduling has changed and lead times are longer than they used to be. Plan accordingly.

I sent mine (a 722) to IT&D Custom Gun a couple of years back. He silver soldered the old extractor groove, trued the bolt face and installed the SAKO extractor for less than $200.00 including sales tax (same state). The turn around time was right around three weeks.

I don't know, I haven't tried calling but searches for the web-site turn up nothing anymore. The last time I did speak with him I was going to have that same gun re-barreled, and he said because of the Obama Law he couldn't do that anymore. I don't remember the details of the regulation, but it put "gun mechanics" in a bind about what they could and couldn't do. The little of it I do remember was it was a United Nations regulation.

?????

Obammer law or United Nations reg? No sir that won't wash.
This is what he told me when I inquired about the re-barreling job. From what I can remember about the conversation, he told me that Obama signed into law by Presidential Decree a UN regulation that hindered/regulated what licensed gunsmith's could and couldn't do. Not his exact words at the the time of the conversation, but that is the jist of it. I remember a little blurb about this from story on the evening news about "Obama accomplishments", but not the details.

Somebody is confused. If this were the case, nobody could rebarrel a rifle. Sure don't know why he would say that? I do believe they instituted a MFG license if you did either a certain amount of work. It was strictly a money "tax" deal only.

I wonder if he is referring to ITAR.
