700 cocking piece sliding surface.

The 700's I have checked, the cocking piece slides on the trigger plate when cocking. Is this the design? On an older metal shroud, I soldered a small piece of copper under the left side of the shroud so that the cocking piece would slide on the inside edge of the shroud slot when cocking. The bolt lift got harder.
What is the 'proper' sliding surface for the cocking piece during cocking? Where do the good custom actions cocking pieces slide?

On a right handed 700 looking from the rear of the action it is the right side of
the cocking piece that slides against the receiver when you lift the bolt cocking the firing pin.

If I am understanding your question.

The cocking piece slides against the right side of the groove in the receiver (assuming a right hand rifle). It may also contact the right side of the trigger housing. WH

Yes. On the 700s I have checked, the cocking piece rides the inside of the trigger plate.
I'm asking if this is normal for good custom actions?
