700 bolt

planning a build for a 6.5-284, action is mag bolt face, what will have to be done to accept the 284 case.

Find someone to trade your mag bolt for a standard boltface.You can open a smaller boltface,but I have never heard of being able to close one. Larry

I would buy one from Dave Kiff. Yes you can reduce the boltface for the smaller rim size. Mike Bryant has done it for me.

I have seen bolts that have bolt faces reduced. I don't know how to describe the process but I've seen them. In fact at the range last week I asked a shooter exactly this question and he showed me that a small "insert" for the lack of a better word was installed on the bolt face to accomodate the smaller case head.

The bolt can be "bushed" so that the smaller case heads can be used with the existing bolt. You could trade bolts as Larry suggested. But I'm with Butch, sell the offending Remmy bolt and give Dave Kiff a call...you will be far ahead of the game.

I too like PTGs bolts, but if you want to stick with a Rem bolt for $ reasons, I'm sure we can work a swap. Just PM me if you're interested.
