700 bolt releases for triggers with no safety or release...?

I understand that the only effective safety is leaving the bolt open. That said, back in the old days 700's came with a pair of holes for a receiver sight on the left rear of the action. No longer the case.

Is such a thing still made, and where might I obtain one?

Or, what is done these days for a trigger with no safety or bolt release?

thank you all,

Rich

If you're asking about side bolt releases, there are two basic styles:

Plunger - a spring loaded affair which when pulled out allows the bolt to be removed.

Rocker-style stop/release - these are available in a couple of different styles which operate by pressing on one end to pivot the stop/release out of the way of the bolt.

Regards.

This is the style I mainly install.

Richard King makes the type of stop your referring to. It screws onto the outside of the receiver using existing receiver sight holes. Can also be used on other receivers with simply drilling two holes and tapping one. No milling required, inexpensive and holds up to heavy use very well. I use several of them. I'll try to post a pic tonight.

You don't need one.

Use a thin blade and push down on the release along the left side of the open bolt.

As stated above, they don't get in the way of installing a side bolt release and they don't aid in this installation. I've installed side bolt release with them and without them.

oops! I meant to say a bolt release that was fitted by drilling one of the holes where the receiver sight would have gone. Nice little pull pin sort of thing.
They were touted as the safest way to go if you installed a competition trigger with no safety.

thanks,

Rich

Do you still have the original pivoting bolt release w/ spring? You can still use it with an aftermarket trigger. The back end is exposed in a slot by the tang. You can easily lift it with a fingernail or small screwdriver when you want to remove the bolt.
