7 Saum Brass

Hi fellas . Is anyone using ADG brass for the 7 Saum ? Are the case dimensions the same as Norma . Better quality ( harder ) than Norma ? Info appreciated

Thanks for the heads up on .200 . I just ordered 300 pieces of ADG . Will confirm when I get it in my hands . Appreciate the info !

SAAMI is 0.550 for the cartridge and 0.551 for the chamber.

The ADG and Gunwerks brass that I've measured was 0.546 or less, if memory serves.

I guess whether or not that is "under" or "smaller" is up to you.

.550 is a Maxi dimension. With a -.008 tolerance. .546 is dead in the center of the tolerance band.

Copy.
Brass flows to max and off the shelf dies are sized accordingly, so thats the number I'm used to referencing.
If that suits your purpose, great.
However, in the realm of $800+ custom reamers (x2) and custom dies (x2), even half that tolerance is a country mile.

My post was meant to be helpful, not argumentative.
Will add the word "max" to my original post for clarity.
Thanks,

Seems fairly common to have different spec among manufacturers (brass). In WSM Winchester is no where close to Norma at .200 or shoulder as well . I hear what your saying , had same issue with 280AI as I chose to go smaller at the base On reamer to fit brass of choice and as a result had to go to custom die set as off the self dies provided NO sizing . Needless to say it didn’t take long for clickers and poor extraction to show up !

Brass arrived today ..... I grabbed 500 pieces . Cut two boxes open and did some goesintas . I didn’t get neck wall as I borrowed my tube mic to a buddy to turn brass . Concentricity is very good as is weight . FYI just pulled 10 random cases out of the boxes and all weighed within a grain 222.21-221.17 on A+D FX120 . 0408720B-6854-4D7D-9360-A4974B4547A0.jpeg 9827F00F-59FE-4C31-9B97-33F4685E7CB3.jpeg 30F5C16E-606C-42F6-AF09-2BAE394F2D06.jpeg
Base = .5445-5450
Shoulder = .535
OAL =2.025

Yes, the ADG saum brass case head is small. Even though it is, it is still holding up very well at high pressures in normal chambers. I did tighten up the base on some reamers, but that also means custom resize reamers for the dies needed. For a hunting rifle I would not even consider tightening up the base. You want to be careful in this area with magnums and Lapua case heads. That brass is harder to move and if you get to close on case head vs chamber, you will never make dies that work.

Thanks for reporting back.
Will be interested to hear what dies you go with and how it works out.

Thanks Alex , I spoke with Matt Kline on this as well . Matt has indicated that he was breaking dies ( small base ) on WSM cases .Boatschool I will be having Whidden make me a set of dies from fired brass and may go bigger than 7/8 as per conversation with Matt .

Neck wall measures .0016 to .00165 on three random cases. Seems on par with other manufacturers. If you have comparisons on Norma brass please post . For reference on shoulder closer to datum this brass is closer to .532 . FYI give five guys a set on calipers and you will get 5 different measurements. I measured with dial and digital calipers and starett neck mic . Hope this helps everyone out .

Loaded rounds with Norma brass are .315-.316 in my experience, if I remember right the neck walls are around .0155-.016 so it appears that the ADG is just slightly thicker (at most .0005 on neck wall).

The ADG loaded rounds should be .316-.317 but maybe someone can verify this?

Most standard 7SAUM reamers are .321-.322 for neck diameter so it seems the ADG brass would work well there. Curious what are minimum chamber/brass clearances people are running for no turn SAUM necks?
