7 Saum brass

I ran into something odd the other day and thought I'd see if this a one of, or a common issue. I decided to start tinkering with some early load development with my 7 Saum hunting rifle. I'd never fired the rifle before, and the brass I had on hand was 20 pcs of once fired Nosler I've had for yrs, and 50 pcs of new Rem brass. I'd already had the RP brass prepped and ready, but decided to decap and prep the Nosler to get some use out of it as well.

The Nosler brass wouldn't fit my #4 RCBS shellholder! I tried several to confirm , and none fit. I told myself just use your new brass you cheap bastid..... So I did, and had some VERY promising results at the range. I still couldn't get over the issue with the Nosler, so I measured it this AM and it's BIG!

RP--------- ---------Nos

Case head dia .527-527.5 .532.5
Case head thickness .0047 .0050-51
Extractor groove .471 .473-475
Web on cases .546 .548-549

( both fired, but only the RP in this rifle)

Has anyone else experienced this? I bought the Nosler some years back as once fired, and I've never tried to use it till now.

Not saying a #4 wont work, but a # 38 shellholder is the designated one for saum. Heck, I used to buy bulk Rem brand saum, and had to buy a # 41 because about 20 per 500 heads were that oversize.

Thanks for the reply... I reckon that splains it then. The old chart I looked at didn't even have the Saum listed, and I assumed. It still seems odd that there's that much difference between the specs between the two brands of brass. I'd thought the #4 was what I'd gotten with a used RCBS 300 ultra mag die set, but after reading your response I double checked and it came with a Lyman #13 shellholder. It fits this Nosler brass as well, so I at least have it covered.
