7 RSAUM Load thread...Post your 7RSAUM(ony 7RSAUM) Load

I've looked for a thread on here that post 7 RSAUM loads only, and haven't found one, so lets start on here. Just got my chambered up and a little surprise at the velocities that I'm getting so, I needed some comparsions...

So far...

Bat with 31" Bartlein 1:87-1:93 twist, Remington Brass, Fed 210M's, .3195 neck with .200 freebore, Beger 180 Hybrids jumping .015, OAL 3.110...Temp 65F Barrel has 55 rounds through it..

VV560 - 61.0 - 2870fps
VV560 - 62.0 - 2955 fps
H4831SC - 61.0 - 2901 fps
H4350 - 56.0 - 2875fps

The VV560 groups were not good at all, while the H4350 fired a .741 actual size group at 300 yards(5-shots)....

I was expecting velocities quite a bit faster based on what everyone is saying...Several places in these forums were it's spoken about Biggs getting 2950-3000 with 56 grs of 4350...

Please post your loads...

Jim, glad to hear you got you magnum done.

You will need a heavier charge of N560 before you can see good accuracy. Work up to it.

my 7mm saum with a 28" broughton and 57.5 gr s h4350w/cci br-2 and 180 hybrid gets 2925. 62,0 gr h4831sc and hybrid gives 2910.
One thing i learned on the web is dont believe posted velocities.I'm not saying mine is dead nuts either but it is more believable.I also used norma brass.

I don't have a saum , but i do know that the UK shooters are getting on very well with VV165 and are getting the speeds you are looking for ,PM GLC on this forum i know he has a 7saum and has just Won the GB F Class league .
Also the second place shooter in the GB league uses a 7mm saum and also uses VV165.

65.5gr of H1000
180gr berger VLD
.020" jam in .188FB chamber
rem cases
cci br2
BAT with 31.5" krieger
3020fps

this load is quite warm in a good custom action so work up!

AusFclass, it seems the air must be lighter here in Aus :)

I'm getting over 3000 as well. I have loads with both H1000 and 2213sc that are warm, but easily get to 3050 fps.

Mine is a Barnard with 32" Krieger, so I think that must be the driver in getting the higher speed.

The others seem to be talking about shorter barrels.

My rifle is a Barnard Model P with 31 inch Bartlein 5R 8.5 twist. Loads are in fully prepped Remington cases using CCI BR2 primers and pushing Berger 180 Target VLD's.

59.5 grains H4831SC best grouping load so far and shoots easily under half inch at 100yds and just over an inch at 300, and still sub MOA at 600 "would shoot better with a better shooter". Not a very hot load but I will take accuracy over speed. Muzzle vel avg is right @ 2910 and single digit SD. I had a High Master friend shoot my rifle and this load at our clubs Palma Practice (8-9-1000yds) with open sights and he only dropped 5 points. Neil Jensen is a hell of a shooter.

63 grains of H1000 shoots real well also but not nearly as repeatable as the 4831sc. I am limited on usable case capacity as my reamer has a very short throat. I never have shot it over the crono. I think H1000 would work better if I could bump it up another grain or so. I might go back to it as the throat erodes.

What are you powder charges/ throat/ seating depths? Interesting to compare your findings against mine

AusFclass,

I have found the following, when developing a load for the rifle.

ADI 2213SC (H4831SC) I have been running 59.5gn with VLD's and they have been chrono'd out to around 3020fps.

ADI 2217 (H1000) I have been running 63.5gn with VLD's and they have been chrono'd out to around 3050fps.

While the primers for both loads are looking OK, I have found that the bolt lift is a bit heavier than usual. And I have had the odd case exhibit marking on the base.

However, I know there is still room for additional speed, IF NECESSARY ????

How do you get 65.5 grains of H1000 into your cases? Mine gets fairly full around 64.5 grains :o

are u running jump or jam and what primers? thats pritty good velocity from 64.5gr of H1000! yes 65.5gr is a compressed load but i just make shure i dont dump the whole charge into the funnel at once. i use a standard funnel but pour slowly.

AusFclass,

By the way, I'm using standard Fed 210 primers. And I'm only using 63.5 grains of H1000 in Norma necked down 300 SAUM cases. With 180gn bergers of course.

I've got some Remington brass too, however I've found the necks to be quite different (non uniform). Neck turning has cleaned them up, however I'm not overly happy with them. I'll see how they handle the pressure compared to the Norma.

Mark,

That load would be about 62.5grs for get 2985fps, at 58 degree F...disclaimer...these are my load and safe in my gun, but maybe not yours......all loads shot over an Olher 33...

62.5 VV560, 180Hybrid jumped .015, averaged 2985fps...10-shot group held between 5-6" vertical at 1000 yards.
57 grs H4350 - averaged 2936fps
57.5 grs of H4350 averaged 2957fps...5-shot group held 2 1/2" vertical at 1000 yards...ES of 3 with SD of 1..
62 grs of H4381sc averaged 2921 fps..

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the additional data points, however I was actually asking Erik about his 560 load in his SAUM.

Based on your info, though, it clearly looks like H4350 is the powder of choice...

Mark,

I am only shooting a lowly Shehane so take this for what it is worth. ;)

H4350 seems too fast for best use in the RSAUM. The Down Under fellows appear to be near the results that I would expect. My Shehane is getting ~2960 from H4831 SC and 180 Hybrids seated 3.250 for a .015 jump. The action is a BAT 3LL, 1.47" Octagon with 20' Picatinny rail and lug machined. The barrel is a 32" Krieger.

VV N560, N165, Reloder 22, H1000 & IMR 7828 SSC seem about the right range.

Hey Steve,

Good info, as always. ;) That is what I thought also, at least until I watched Danny shoot the 200-15s in Phoenix running 4350 in his SAUM. Quite a few others have it dialed in now as well, so while it does not appear to be a go to on the surface, it seems to a viable choice.

I am also running it, with good success in my case design, the 7WTR (basically a Shehane/AI combo), and also in my straight .284. It is shooting a little bit better than the 4831SC did, and the lot to lot variances are much less. That is really the main thing that pushed me away from the 4831SC.

Are you planning on attending the Berger match in Phoenix again? We're working on arrangements this week actually. How did the foot/ankle heal up, well I sure hope!!

Well, what load of 560 is shooting well in your SAUM?

I don't have a SAUM, I used QuickLOAD to figure out that his load was too light to be accurate.

I did not know Danny was using H4350. Hard to argue with his results. I will give H4350 a try in the Shehane. H4831 SC has been accurate and consistent but there is always room for improvement. ;)

I will attend both the Palma Championship this week and the Berger Nationals next year. Ankle is healed and I am fully ambulatory. I hope to see you there.

We have 23 matches scheduled at Camp Pendleton next year. It will be busy. I already ordered another 7mm barrel because this one will not likely make it through the season, even just shooting the 11 Long Range matches.

Interesting on a couple of points:

First, I've never used QL, so are you saying that QL is really that proven as a predictor of ultimate accuracy, and can predict on the target accuracy differences between .5 grains of powder and given only a 25-50 fps difference? Is it predicting this based on ES/SD projections, or what specifically?

Second, how will QL predict a load running already close to the top is absolutely "too light to be accurate"? What if the load he was shooting was just 15 fps above the "low node"?

I'm curious as I thought QL would predict approximate pressure and velocity, but I have not heard before about it predicting ultimate accuracy. Given all the variables impacting accuracy, that would be very impressive

Again, I've never used or even seen it used, so not sure of it's capabilities. Sure impressive it appears, what does this damn thing cost??

Excellent, looking forward to seeing you on the line again, and who knows now that your ankle has healed up, maybe you'll be up for the pending hotel cart race rematch!! ;)

Yep, I got tried of getting my butt kicked by guys shooting 4350, so I just went ahead and joined them. Be it in the SAUM or the Shehane, seems like it is working in them all right now. Good stuff.
