I've had good success with DJ case forming of 30BR brass from 6BR new brass. Here's the question: has anyone formed 7BR (Remington chamber) brass from Lapua 6BR brass? Does the conversion work and are there any downsides? (DJ will hydroform the brass and provide a uniform neck thickness. I just want to be assured that the conversion works.)

One pass with a 6.8 (.270) mandrel got me to 6.8 from 6 BR with no issues so the same routine shouldn't be an issue. Up to 7 with the mandrel then a full length die pass and BINGO, 7 BR.

Whatever happened to the 7BR? By coincidence, I was having this conversation yesterday - we were discussing a mutual friend, now passed, who had 2 7br's built ,back in the 90's One was a silhouette pistol, the other a lightweight "bush" rifle. Both were made on Chinese actions with Tru-Flite barrels.
Rem 7mmBR kind of faded with the decline of IHMSA. I had a factory Rem XP100 in 7BR. The cartridge with a 140 gr bullets has plenty of oomph to nock over the 200 yards rams, but was not as ergonomic to shoot right hand with the right side bolt handle. Went back to using a T/C Contender in 7mmT/CU which good enough for 40x40 scores. The XP was good at anchoring Michigan whitetail out 250 yards with a Sierra 130 gr SSP.

I agree. I still have my 7BR XP100, different stock, but sure wish it was a left-handed bolt.

Why use a mandrel? Fill the case with a fast powder and plug it with wax or clay and fire.

That'll work too. Never tried cleaning wax or clay out of a barrel.

A mandrel does not require a primer or powder, and in this day and age ??

What I'am usually doing is, building a dummy round to send out and have a reamer cut to those specs.
Mandrel to open the neck, bullet seated where I want it and neck OD set so there's no neck turning needed.
