7.62 X 39 mm

Anyone here have some favorite loads for A Cz 527 in 7.62 x 39mm bolt gun. I'm putting my stuff together before I order anything extra. Right now I have some 308 diameter Hornady 110 grain RN jacketed soft points. Plus a box of Sierra 125gr. flat nose soft points marked for a 30-30 rifle. Between these two types I think I will be able to get an idea what this rifle will shoot. I intend to start w/ a greatly reduced pistol powder for the plinker bullet & The starting load of either 4198 or Benchmark to see what it likes for the 125 grain hunting bullet. Eventually I'd like to use this thing as a plinker training type rifle w a cast bullet.. like this one..DSC3241-2-308_RCBS_115GR._RN-GC.jpg 115 grains. TIA, Mike in Ct

Unless you have a .308 barrel , the .308 bullets will shoot okay for maybe 10 - 15 rounds , and then start going all over the place on the target . Look for some .310 / .311 diameter bullets to get a good load work-up . Been there , tried using .308's . Didn't work ...

I have not loaded for 7.62x39 bolt rifles but for both of my SKS rifles a Lapua case slam full of H322 (29 grs. and it is a compressed load) Rem 9 1/2 primer, Hornady .310 diameter 123 gr. soft point bullet, COAL 2.190 crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp Die is super accurate and does a number on deer inside 100 yards which is as far as I have shot one with it.

Yes unless your rifle has a .308 bore you are wasting your time with .308 bullets.
I learned this also with the 7.62x54R with numerous different rifles even though most load data list .308 bullets in the data. These rifles need .311 or .312 diameter bullets. And slugging the bore is a necessity especially the Russian WWII rifles because bore diameter varies greatly in them. I have had two that slugged over .312 and I sent them down the road because they just would not shoot under basket ball size groups.

One little tip: Get you a Lee Factory Crimp Die. These little bullets do not have a very long shank and not much of that length will allow the bullet to hold well in the case. Loading the Hornady bullet up to the cannular and not crimping it the bullet can be easily pulled out by hand and some can be actually spun around. Using the Lee Factory Crimp Die solves this problem and can be used with no adverse effect on bullets that don't have a cannular.

5744 powder

Thanks for all the tips. I did order that 3 Die Lee set w the shell holder. It is only my second set of Lee dies. The first ones work pretty well in my 25 Goofy. The dies are better than the chamber & the throat in that puppy. mikeinct

I had a cz527 - 762×39. It was the worst. Not to rain on your parade.. Just a heads up. I eventually sold it and now have a couple howa mini actions. Your cz might be great but i thought it might be helpful information.

I like A1680, RL 7 and CFE Black I never have shot any .308s just 123 .311 Hornady
I don't load for a bolt 7.62x39, but I have three AR's chambered for it.

According to Hodgdon's web site the CFE-BLK had the best velocity so that's what I've been using.

I've been super pleased with the results. I used it for the entire hunting season this year!

I also shot 125gr 308 bullets out of mine and velocities where decent. There are some great .310 bullets available so I quit using .308 bullets.

The CZs were designed to shoot cheap surplus commie-30s. Mine shoots them farily well (its a practical rifle not a precision rifle). I have shot Winchester factory loads out of the 527 & it was ok, I also have a RAR which prefers American ammo over milsurp.

I'M JUST STARTED ON A HOWA MINI IN 7.62X39 SO I''LL KEEP MY EYES ON THIS POST AND JUST MAYBE IN A FEW WEEKS I CAN SHARE SOME LOADS BUT I'LL BE USING .311 DIA BULLETS AND H-335

The barrel of the CZ 527 in 7.62x39 has a . 311 bore so .308 bullets will not shoot in that barrel. For maximum accuracy in my Howa Mini action, I load Sierra .311 Pro Hunter bullets in 125 and 150 grain varieties. The best powder by far is CFEBLK, but BL(C) 2 works as well. The best load in my ladder for the 125 grainers was 30 grains of that powder with MOA to slightly below MOA at 100 yards. The 150 grainers shot best with 24 grains, giving me 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. Start a couple of grains below these and work your way up to see what your CZ likes.

I have loaded thousands of 7.62x39's to feed a slew of AR 47's. Buy commie ammo, pull the steel bullet. Run thru your sizer die, expander and decapper stem removed of coarse. chamfer the case , seat a .310 bullet of your choice, don't get no better. Just use same grain .310 bullet as replacement. Pull with vise grips. No worry about field recovery of brass , cause there isn't any. Premium ammo at discount price.
