7 - 6.5 PRCW for 1000yd bench rest

I see a few 300wsm’s at 1000 yd bench rest comps, but no 7’s. Particularly, what would be the pros and cons of using a 7-6.5prcw at 600 and 1000yd bench rest competitions? I shoot Fclass with a 7 -6.5 prcw and was thinking in getting into bench rest. I have never shot a benchrest long range competition before. I was hoping to get some views of the collective wisdom here at AS. Thanks

Have Alex build you one and take it to the top!!!
Good luck!

My 7-6-5 prcw is from Alex. He does exceptional work!
I was just wondering why you don’t see them in IBS or NBRSA 600 and 1000 competitions.

Lack of custom 7mm bullets. At 1k with a good batch of bullets you should do well. The added BC of 7mm doesn’t help that much at 600 unless the conditions are really windy and even then the extra recoil will slow you down enough that the 6’s will probably still beat the 7. I shot a really good 284 Shehane with 180 hybrids for a few matches and just couldn’t get over the top with it. None of this is to discourage you from trying, I’m just sharing my experience.

There is a group of F-class guys that join us for 1000yd BR at CRC and they bring their 7mm. They are competitive and do a fair share of winning. I think there is a distinction to be made between record setting and just competing. I think on any given day, the 7mm could be steered to a win by a good shooter. Winning a whole season agg is a different question that is yet to be answered.

EDIT: Another point is that ballistic superiority has little advantage in 1k BR. You can shoot as fast as you are able and that is a big advantage in the wind.
