7.5 twist and light bullets

I have a 7.5 twist 6mm barrel on order, what is the lightest bullet have you been able to shoot accurately in this fast of a twist without it blowing up, and please identify the bullet. I checked Burgers web site, but couldn't find any data.

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi i am looking at the same thing with my ar15 an 223rem. 1:8 twist seems to like 82 bergers best ok with 73s. the problem with a tight twist and light bullets is velocity and rpm. eg 82gr berger @ 2800fps in 1:8 twist ............2800 x 1.5,1.5 twists per foot)x 60 = 252000 rpm
50gr bullet @ 3600 = 324000 rpm
on this note i am looking at down loading lighter bullets with faster burning powders like bluedot and some N320 i have on order to still get reasonable pressure to enable a good case seal but with far less velocity and spin.
will keep you posted on my findings!
hope this helps

I use a 7.5 twist barrel on my 6XC and shoot 70 grain Sierra HPBT Match Kings with 36 grains of Accurate XMR4064 and a 210M primer. This load will shoot <0.4 MOA. I have never chronographed it but it is probably in the 3000+ fps range. I have used this load at 200 and 300 yds in XC matches with very good results. This load shoots exceptionally well in off-hand matches out of my 28' barrel.

This is 14 year old thread and this guy hasn’t been on here since 2019 so I wouldn’t expect an answer. I’m like you in that I have a 7.5 twist 6XC and have some 85,87 grain bullets that I wonder will make it to the target with that twist. I have an 8 twist in 6BR and 6XC too but in all of the above I shoot 103-115 grain bullets. I have shot the 87 gr in 6XC with 8 twist and it did just fine.

That's good to hear. I got a bra bbl that I'm about to give up on. I have 1000 70g 6mm that need a recipe. I had. 8twist 6br bbl that shot those amazingly but it was pushed with H4895.
Can't find that stuff.

I had a 7.5:1 twist on my 6 Creedmoor.

The best bullet I found was the Hornady 105 Match. Those gave me 6-7" groups at 1000 yds and 2-3" at 600 yds pushing 2950 FPS.

I tried Burger 105, Hybrid target and Barnes 105's The Hornady was the best groups out of the bunch.

I know people swear by Burgers, I swore at them.. LOL

Out of my 6BR those Hornady 105’s shoot very well. pretty good out of the 6XC. They drop a lot more out at distance though.
