7/300 wsm Tips

Could use some info on how some of you guys are doing your 7/300 wsm brass prep.

Forming the 300 wsm brass to 7mm, and dies used.

I did acquire 4 Hornady forming brass dies from a previous rifle purchase which i had lester bruno rechamber.

Thanks in Advance

John I can't help you with 300 WSM brass, but I have used 270 WSM brass to form my brass to 7mm for about 10 years. All I do is run them over an expander and turn the neck diameter for my chamber. 270 WSM brass requires only a 0.007" expansion vs 0.024" neck reduction for the 300 WSM.

Whenever you are necking down here are a few "must-do's" if you will.
1.) If you are going down a lot, as in .308 to .284 or smaller: Turn the necks down while it is at 30 caliber to about 1 thousandths thinner than your intended FINISHED neck wall thickness.
2.) ALWAYS, always, always use the next smaller BODY DIE than your current cartridge. EXAMPLE: in your case after you have turn your necks to the desired neck wall thickness, run your cases into a 7mm WSM body die. This will bring the case down so it literally looks like a factory 7mmWSM piece of brass.
3.) REMOVE your expander ball from your 7mmWSM F/L die and lube the case up and run it into the die. Now measure the case wall>>you will probably have to turn it down again to get to the exact desired neck wall thickness.
4.) If you do have to turn it down, it won't be much. However, IF you do, use a bushing in that is 2 thousandths smaller than the neck diameter is now. Run the case into the F/L bushing die with the correct bushing size.
5.) Run the case back into a mandrel
6.) RE-turn the necks to the correct neck wall thickness. This will produce PERFECT and completely formed brass.

Look at Larry's post! It is MUCH easier to neck UP than to neck down! Get some .270WSM brass if possible!
