6XC

Hello all

I am leaning toward building a 6xc. I currently have two 22-250s one is a Remington 700 and the other is on a cooper m22, should I go with one of these or just build a completely new rifle. I am thinking of a new rifle with a good action, barrel, stock trigger etc. Do any of you have any suggestions on barrel make, length, twist etc. also neck diameter? action types?I think I would rather have a single shot action. I will be mainly using out to 1000 yrds on PDs and Plates. any information will help me out.

Thanks

Howdy !

You wouldn't have to have 115's for shooting PDs @ 1,000. A 1-8 twist would handle 105 -107s just fine.

There are many superb manufacturers of custom barrels. To help refine choices down some, you might want to consider:
- If you want a " cut rifled " barrel. If you do, that starts to shorten the potential candidates list right there.
- Whether the barrel maker provides barrels that will finish to the length you want. Some providers charge extra $$$ for added lengths.
- Do you want to try a " gain twist " barrel ? If so, that would constitute another " filter " of the candidate barrel maker pool.
- Names like Hart, Kreiger, Bartlien, Broughton come to mind; just to name a few.

Actions:
There are many, many good choices out there....
- Do you want a custom " Remington Clone " action ?
- Would you like a flat-bottomed action ?
- Integral recoil lug ?
- Integral scope base ? If so, do you want it to be of the 20moa type ?
- Do you want a Fluted bolt as standard equipment ?
- Does the action need to have bolt handle swap-out capability ?
- Names like Pierce, BAT, Kelbly, Stiller, Borden, Nesika... and others.

My point:
If you can form a list of desired features, that can help you trim down the number of potential barrel and action makers.
And certainly, cost & availability factor-in heavily.

I DK if that helps, any ?!

See if you can find a used Tubb 2000 in 6XC. I found one for $ 3500 last year that shoots lights out. Krieger 1:7.5 twist barrel and a new .308 barrel and lots of brass and accessories. I shoot DTAC 115s and Lapua 105 Scenar L out to 1500yds.

thanks for the replies, I guess I am really going to have to do some home work on this! I was actually thinking of going with a kreiger 4 groove palma 30" in either 1-7.5 or 1-8"

Howdy !

For my 6mm ( 6XC - 6Creedmoor capacoty class ), I had a chamber cut by running a stock 6mm Rem reamer in "short"; to obtain .466" base diam.

I utilize 7 X 64 Brenneke brass, which has .466" base diam; and is .308 bolt face compatible. I use NORMA brass ( RWS also makes it ).
The NORMA brass is high quality, and is available @ good prices ( while things like .308WIn can't be found ).

I use a ( LEE ) 6.5 X 55 Swedish FL die ( w/ its internals removed to make die open-topped ), as the case forming die.
A perch is made out of a .308 shell holder, a flathead machine screw of < .460" head diam; and a jam nut ( screw & nut 1/4-20 ).

The perch is snapped in-place in the reload press' ( mine's a Rockchucker ) primer ram slot ( primer arm removed ).

Brass to be formed is placed atop theperch, and press arm operated to advance brass up-into the die.
As shoulders are shoved downward on the cases, excess brasse extrudes out the top of the ope-topped die.

New 6mm wildcat brass ( I call it " Deep 6 " ) emerges from the die w/ a very slightest touch from a deprime rod or dowel ).
Brass comes out formed in near-net shape.

Cases receive a rough cut-off for length, then a detail trim to final case' oal.

The cases are given an inside neck ream and outside neck turn, to arrive @ final 6mm calibre, and nekc wall thickness/neck OD desired.

NO custom dies and NO custom reamers required !!

Post reply immediately above was intended to go out as a PM.
I did select the PM option from the profile, but the info showed up as a conventional " post " reply.
I DK what exactly happened ?

My apologies !

you have 2 good actions. depending what form of rifle you want such as a varmint, f class, hunting etc. figure that out and screw a quality barrel preferably an 1 in 8 twist on either action you like best, get them trued chamber it in a 6xc and shoot it you'll love it.

I agree with what's been posted if you will only be shooting 105 or 107. Bullets. My 6XC is 7.5 twist and I do shoot 115. I like being able to shoot either and I haven't seen any information that the 8 twist shoots better than the 7.5 twist. I'm building another 6 XC and it will be a 7.5 twist . I hunt deer with mine and a 600 yd shot with 115s gives me a little more confidence. I'm confident to 800 yds with 115s
