6xc in tactical comp app.

Kicking around a 6xc for my wife ;). Question please, what velocity could I expect out of a 26-27" barrel 1x7.5 using a bullet in 100-115 class, also any bullet weight recommendation's. Will have to engage targets 50-1000 yards. Thank you.

Short answer - approx. 3000fps with H4350 and DTAC 115gr bullet. Might want to take a look at these articles. These should get ya started :-)

The new 105g Berger Hybrids have a higher BC and can be fired at a higher velocity than either of the 115g bullets available.

If I were looking at a new bullet for a 6XC, the 105g Hybrid would be it.

It would be interesting to see just how many 6XCs are actually getting 3000 fps with a 115 DTAC out of a 30" bbl much less a 26-27 inch tube.

If you get that velocity, my guess is that the brass will be a perishible commodity.

I'm getting ready to do a 6XC build myself this winter and have been collecting every article regarding the 6XC and the DTAC 115s that I can get my hands on. Also reading zillions of posts on about 6 different sites on a daily basis for about 6 months now as well as talking to a few folks who have them. In trying to put all the information that I have gathered together I would have to say that if you are not getting at least 2950 - 3000fps with the DTAC 115s in a 27in barrel using 39.5gr of H4350 in the Norma brass and not getting dozens of reloads out of the brass then you definately have a gun/barrel problem. Just too many people reporting great results with that cartridge in both performance and brass life. I would have to wonder as to whether the barrel was too tight, too loose, wrong twist, wrong land configuration, wrong reamer for cartridge, wrong bullet seating, wrong sizing die, etc. Got to go to the source and give David Tubb a call if you are not getting great results.

Since my hunting and competition shooting rarely exceeds 4-500yds, I opted to go with a 9 twist and shoot mostly 95gr, and 80's on occasion. I'm using 40-42gr of powder (depending upon the particular powder I'm using).

There are rounds that I shot competition with a few weeks ago that have been reloaded 15 times. The rifle shoots competitively and am using the Norma brass. How well and tight the chamber is cut will help reduce brass fatigue too.

From what I've seen out of my 28" barrel and the 95gr, there is little doubt in my mind that 3000fps is attainable with the loads these fellas are using on the 115's. Just based my experience with the round. WD

Plan is together I'm rebarreling a Sako TRG action to 6XC. I have a Bartlein 7.5 5R med palma and a Krieger 7.5 HV contour, leaning toward the Bartlein. Now help needed to find a GOOD honest smith that has the reamer can install, chamber, thread muzzle 18x1 in a time frame that doesn't stretch to years, 1-3 months would be great but may be dreaming ;D. Any suggestions on smith greatly appreciated.
