6XC brass questions

Does anyone know who makes his brass???

How uniform is the 3rd lot of brass???

I'm thinking of getting some for a cartridge very similar to his xc. I can fire form his to mine. At present I'm forming from 308 Match brass and will continue unless I get some good input about his.

The brass is made by Mast Technologies - same folks that make brass for Lazerroni, and I think Dakota.

Not sure how good generation 3 product is. Generation 1 was soft and thick, and generation 2 not as uniform as some would have liked. Still, the stuff shoots okay, assuming you can live with 15" groups at 1000 yards for 10-20 shot strings.

The trouble is, no one knows when it's going to be out. They have been saying "three weeks" since Nov04. A month ago, DTubb posted that he tested a bunch of different heat treatments and the brass would be out about three weeks after the SHOT show was over.

Well, it's been three weeks? Word the other day,, three more weeks. It's March already,,, how do they expect shooters to get ready for the spring regionals and state LR championsips? I think all this putting guys off and saying three weeks, has gotten to the point of being disrespectful.

Anyway,, I hope the third lot is good stuff. When,if) I ever get it, I look forward to trying out the Tubb cartridge.

Mast Tec made the second run of brass. I'm not sure who made the 3'rd but it was not Mast.
I had a 30”, 1 in 8” twist, # 6, Lilja, 6mm barrel chambered up in 6XC for my T2K last Tuesday. Slow day @ the gunsmith and he did the job that morning. I like that kind of turnaround. Ran 13 rounds down it Tuesday to break it in and took it to my club 300 yd range on Wed. I loaded up 7 incremental rounds with the new 115 gr Tubb 6 mm bullets. Started @ 37.5 gr of H4350 and increments of 0.3 gr up to 39.4 gr.

Used the 2'nd run of Tubb 6XC brass and Russian primers. Ran the first 7 and the last 3 went into the same hole. Top end V was 2966 f/s. Ran the test again and the last 3 also went into the same hole. Top end was 2970 f/s. I overlaid the two targets and the last 3 from each string made one ragged hole about ½” in diam.

End of load development for that barrel. The fired primers @ the top end were flat but still had rounded edges. No ejector marks on the case head and they extracted with no stickiness of the bolt. I loaded up 44 rounds with 39.5 gr H4350 seated the 115 about .010 long for a soft seat when used and took it to Butner, NC. There was an 800 Agg XTC on Sat and a 50 shot team match on Sunday. I used my P64 M70 308,30” Krieger lite Palma) for those matches.

The team match was followed by a 2 X 600 yd, 20 round/2 sighter any/any/f-class match. I mounted a Sinclair Bi Pod on the T2K and used it in F-class to evaluate the load. According to my Sierra Infinity program the 115 @ 2975 f/s & .575 BC, it would be down 50” from a 300 yd zero @ 600 yds. 8 ½ moa.

I cranked 34 clicks of elevation on the Leopold 24X target scope and let fly the first sighter. I was a 9, Dead 9:00 o’clock. Came 1 ½ moa right and had a center X for the second sighter. Shot a 199-15X. The 9 was my fault, it went right where I pointed it. The group was about 2 ½ - 3” for elevation. The next match I had a 200-15X. This one used about ½ the X ring and about 7” wide. So, is an 8" twist ok for the 115's? I definitely think so. The 12 holes in the 3" spotter were nice and round. No tipping.

Thanks for the information. I guess I'll get Lapua 243 and size it down. Thanks again!!!!!!!! For what it worth, may case holds about 2 grain less powder and I used a 6mm improved Rem reamer run in short, to get a long neck. I have been working on 300 cases and hopefully start working on loads in one or two weeks.

are you shooting moly or naked 115's?
I, too have found the T2K to shoot very well with very little work for load development.
thanks

Mikecr, With the 308 cases, I ran cases into a 30 BR then 6 BR FL die. I have die for it now and will just run 243 case, into the full length die, with out the de-capping pin and see what I have to do after that. I could use the 30 br and 6 br fl die again, then turn necks.

JeffinTX. I'm using Danzac coating and no wax. I also found the T2K needs next to nothing for load development. It just shoots everything into 1/2 moa or less. Increasing the charge just moves the group up or down on the paper. I just load for the V I want and and go shoot. It is without a doubt, the most accurate and least finicky rifle I have ever had and I've been at this game for 40 years. The 6XC is the only way to fly as far as I'm concerned. Once the brass question is settled I think it will take over the XTC game. All you really need is the Tubb dies then brass is no problem with the availability of good,Norma) 22-250 cases.
