6x47L with light bullets

Have any of you experimented with the 55 or 60 grain bullets in the 6-6..5x47L. It seems the only load data out there is for 105 and 108s with a smattering of stuff for 115s.

Preferred powder etc?

Thanks

The Hodgdon website has data for the 55 Gr bullets in the 6mm X 47L. I used IMR 8208 XBR for the 70 GR. Nosler BT and it worked great. A little over 3500 FPS and very accurate. BTW, I've been using that bullet in various 6mm cartridges for over 20 years and it is one of the great bullets out there IMHO.

I have been using some 70 gn HPFB Nosler Varmagheddon bullets for fire forming in a new 6x47 barrel. It is a 1:7 twist and I was running a mid range load of CFE223 I was wanting to get rid of. Well only 2 out of 70 bullets made it to the 100 yard target. The rest exploded somewhere in between. I didn't care that much and do not know how they would do in a 1:8 twist barrel.

If I was really wanting to use them for a real purpose other than what I was doing, I would start at the min just to see and maybe only load 120 to check it out.

I do have some 55 gn sierra blitzking which I will do exactly that and probably go with a min Varget load. They will be used for 100 yard low recoil practice with my F-Class gun in position.

As was mentioned earlier, Hodgdon does have reloading for 6X47L in the latest edition or you can download it from their site.

There is no question it will work, and probably work well. The thing is that most 6X47Ls are built, match rifles. 1:8 or 1:7 is becoming typical twist because marksmen want to throw the heavier, higher BC bullets. Mine was specifically built for the 105gr HTs with a 1:7. I think most guys would rather sacrifice a little more drop in the middlin' ranges for less @ 1,000-1,400 yds. It also helps a lot keeping your wind holds smaller. So I see it more as a function of the games where it's more prevalent than anything else.

I have a 1:10 twist 6X47L PacNor barrel on a Savage PTA. Never shot bullets as light as 55-60 gr. With 70-95 gr. bullets, N550 gave the best accuracy and velocity. Vic

I shot a few 55s using Varget and extrapolated. I started way low and went up. I got to 3800 fps and quit. 10 bullets at nearly 1 grain increments went into about an inch.

This rifle will NOT shoot 105 Berger Hybrids. I was really hoping it would. Does seem to like 107 SMKs. I turned the necks and will try again this week. I also found some 95 grain Sierra Tipped MKs. I think it will stabilize these fine.

Maybe go back to H4350 or 4451 for these

Berger says you need a 1:7 to stabilize a 105 hybrid. I have a 6br with a 1:8 and they do ok in it at 100. I wouldn’t want to chance it long distance.

If you are considering the 95 tmk then also consider the 90 Berger target. It is hands down the most accrate bullet in my 6br

Also the 108 berger target seems to be as forgiving as the 107 smk. Another option

I went to Berger's website and put the data for this bullet and barrel into their algorithm. It says I am completely stabilized and use the full BC at 1.52. The TMKs are noticeably shorter. I loaded some regular boat tails too, non VLDs from Nosler. Maybe they will shoot better. Maybe Shilen didn't send me an 1-8 barrel, I should check I guess!
