6x47 Lapua

Ive ordered a 27" 6mm Blank with 8 twist and i want to give the 6x47 Lapua a try.
My biggest question is what reamer would you guys suggest?

I see several options on free bores and necks.
This is my first time in this kinda "wildcat" territory

Being a 8 twist im thinking the 107s are going to be my limit. I already have a few thousand 107 SMKs so it sure would be nice to get them to shoot. But i do have 105 Hornadys, Noslers, Bergers and some 95gr Sierras i can try.

Id like to dial it in for 600 yard F-class and have fun with it.

I had one done by Mike Bottiger on an 8 twist. It shoots 105 Berger Hybrids at easily over 3100 fps and is awesome. I don't know the reamer specs but reach out to Mike and I'm sure he can fill you in.
Mike's work is excellent, reasonable and great turn around.

"I would get a sammi spec Reamer and adjust the free bore as needed with a throating reamer. I am with you, I hate turning necks. Neck turning is starting to fall by the wayside. Many people have experimented on it and have found no benefit."

I contacted 4DRentals to see what Reamer they had and the reamer print.

My reamer is a .272" neck and .100" freebore.

The neck is a fuzz snug for my liking, so I do a minor cleanup on the necks.

The .100" freebore is perfect of the 105 class bullets.

Good stuff. I like how everyone has agreed on the .100 freebore.
What did you have to clean your necks up to? Just took 1k off of them or more?

I have a .093 freebore. It’s close enough to .100 that no body would even know any difference. I ran a .273 neck for a while and that was too tight. I now run a .274 neck and I feel more comfortable with it. My loaded rounds average right at .271

Does anyone know why Lapua is the only 6.5x47 Brass manufacture?
Seems a company like Starline, Jagemann, AlphaMunitions, or the like would get on board and make some?

Beware the .272” neck is billed as no-turn by many gunsmiths and it really isn’t. Loaded unturned brass measures really close to that (.2705-.271+”). If you want a true no-turn neck look for a .274” or .275” neck. I’ve heard the reason behind this is that the first run of brass released was gold box and thinner, Dave Kiff and many gunsmiths got their hands on it and the reamers’ dimensions were created, but later blue box brass was thicker, creating a clearance issue. I think this might be why some folks have labeled the round finicky, in my experience it wasn’t.

In several (4) of these I or my buddies have loaded for, VV N160 has been the cat’s meow. I have also found 7828SSC to be an absolute gem in the 6x47L, even better than my beloved H4831SC.

YMMV

Is there a free bore measurement that would work with 85gr GameKings and the 105 class bullets. Also would the standard Forster f/l die set work with say the .274 necks?

Do you guys load a test round, fire it and measure the neck OD, Resize it and then measure the neck OD. Determine the clearance you want and trim to that?

Measure loaded rounds and adjust from there.

I use mixture of Redding 6 and/or 6.5x47 full length or neck bushing dies to neck down and load 22, 6mm, and 6.5 x47 rounds.

So you dont measure a fired round to see what it is?
First time at this so just wondering.
