6x47 lap

I've tried 38g H4350 107 SMK's (2930 fps) and find split groups :'(
Just wonder if they don't work so well at shorter distance's (200y range) and maybe go with flat base bullet?

(I used the 107smk bullet in a 6br over varget with super accuracy and thought they would work as well)
Does anyone use 107 sierra's or 105 lapua in 6x47 lap.
If so what loading are you using?

Would you like to let us have a little more information i.e. what is your twist rate?

Ideal twist would be an 8-twist.

I am shooting a Broughton 8 twist. Using the 107SMK, R7 1/2 primer, 40gr of H4350 I am getting 3040fps and good accuracy.

Switched to 40gr of RL17 with above components and velocity went to 3160 with room to go. Accuracy is better than above.

Brother is shooting a Krieger I cut with same reamer as mine and runs an average of 80fps faster than the Broughton. Accuracy with either H4350 or RL17 is excellent in his. Only difference is he is shooting a 105 Berger Orange box vs. my Sierra. Above listed velocity difference was with Sierra when I was testing them over an Oehler 35P.

Edit to add-Are you sure you have zero parallax. If off that can cause double grouping?

Last Sunday I did some load work on my 6x47 l. 8 twist lilja and a stiller predator. Bullets were 105 berger hunting. cci 450 primers.
Rl 17 was the fastest. 3310 at 42gr
H4350 did not shoot well at all.
Hybrid 100v did a great job at 40.5gr. 3117,3117,3119,3118,3120. That will be the powder we will work with this weekend.

Cheers for info

Rifle is a rebarelled Remmy PSS, pacnor 28" 1 in 8" twist, no turn neck.
HS stock fitted with GBR bottom metal to use AI mags

My 105 load is:

105 berger hunting/A-max
39gr Re17

Best load by far in mine is:

115 Berger hunting
35gr Re17

Hmmmm that Hybrid 100v looks promising, please keep us posted as to your accuracy with this powder as I have a few pounds of it. Thanks!!!

Back to the farm today to test the hybrid 100 v and the berger 105 hunting bullets. I only had 40 bergers left to shoot and found that 40.5gr to be the most accurate. Today we changed neck tension from .004 to .002. and the groups opened up. Back to .004 and that was best.

After the bergers were gone, we got into a box of lapua 105 scenars. 41 grains of h4350 and the rifle was shooting great!

I have never had good luck out of the 107 SMK's I had the best luck with a Berger 108 BT. I found that Lapua 105, BIB 108 bt, and flat shot just about as well. With them bullets I was able to shoot 5 shoot 100 yard groups in the .3-.4 area all day long. From there it just shined out to 600 and 1000 yards.

On powder I used 37.5 grs IMR 4350. I found that my barrel doesn't like speed, and I had to keep the velosity around 2950. I use CCI 450 primers. I found that Hybrid 100 V was an OK powder, I could realy get speed out of it, but it did not help, the more speed the more the groups open up. I tried a couple of diferent lots of RE17 and found no reason to use it, for me it was very dirty, did not shoot well, and did not produce any more speed.
Randy Robinette told me that they have had great luck with 4007 SSC in the 6x47L.

I was hoping to keep velocity around 2950 to get max barrel life, but looks like a lot of you guys are running faster to get best results.

Just to clarify
the CCI 450 primers are the small rifle magnum primers?

I'm shooting 38.7grs of H4350, WS2 coated 107smk, and CCI's 450 out of a Krieger 1-8 30" barrel. Don't have a clue on the speed would guess around 2950-3000. I can run it a lot faster, well over 40.0grs, but this load puts wood on the wall.

Just an update

moved scope forward a bit parallax issues ???
Loaded 107 smk's with 37.5 and 38g H4350, CCI 450 primers.
Now getting 0.7"x0.3" @ 185 yards (range we use), no split groups ;D ;D ;D

Can anyone explain why the magnum primers work in this cartridge

I suspect it is because the small primer and small flash hole have a hard time igniting that much powder. You need more primer for that volume.

Have a couple of 600 yd benchresters who claim they opened up the flash holes to standard SR brass size and groups closed up.

just wonder what size neck you guys using?

mine was a .272" reamer.
sized .269
fired .271
sized with bullet seated .271
Do you think the brass req necks turned?
I read there should be 1.5 to 2 thou clearance each side.

I can tell you a little secrete that a successful 600 yard shooter shared with me. He said nobody does this but they should. That meaning, use varget powder!! I wont say how much though. I know most will balk but this man means business and is very very well known!! Good luck! Lee

I and several others tried Varget and all found that it regularly threw a shot out of the group and generally low.
H4350 solved that problem in all the rifles involved.
