6x45 ?

does anyone know anything on this round? i am wanting to know how it compares to cartriges like the 6.8 spc, or the 6 mm ppc. i cant seem to find much info on it. i dont even how accurate it is, or if its a waste of time? all i know is i have to make my own loads, but thats ok. i have plenty of .223 because i have an ar-15. and its feed preety often....:)

I put together a 6 TCU which is very similar, in fact I don't even know the differences. I believe the 6/223 uses the parent shoulder angle whereas the TCU is 40 degree. Had talked to ad avid silhouette shooter that has used it in a TC and XP and he claimed is was a super cartridge and easy to make shoot.

Guy had given me the reamer but it was a .262 nk. Did shoot it some with 65 VMax and it shot great with little expermenting I was at 2700+ from a 24" and room to go. I have since had neck cut to .272 and am just fireforming new brass. Using 80FMJ bullets fireforming it will easily shoot sub moa. In fact I shot 10rds onto one target and 9 were right at moa. with 10th making group about 1.2". This is from a standard, not XX) Douglas CM #3 barrel cut to 24" and 10 twist. Figured it would make a nice fur gun and am looking forward to some warmer weather and no wind to test further. Hoping for 3000 with the 65-70gr bullets using 2015 AA and think it is doable. I am thinking ballistically anyway there may be a bit extra case capacity with the TCU but have no idea how much and if one is inheretly more accurate than the other. TCU measures .364 diameter at shoulder compared to the 223 at about .354.

Actually this is a necked up 5.56. I think the necked up .222 is called a 6x43 and a necked up .222 magnum is called a 6x47 ?

This cartridge does not have the performance numbers of the other cartridge you mentioned but It also fits in the magazines and guns where 5.56 once was with the barrel being the only modification.

I don't have one of these but I am very curious about them.

I would like to see to see if there is a version that can use 115 grain bullets and still fit into a magazine. I also wonder if this bore diameter and case magazine restriction makes the 115 a step backwards.

I am also curious to see how the 6mm 223 substitutes compare with the the 6.5 MPC

i am thinking on this being my first build. i am going to start pricing out barrel blanks and machining tools. along with reloading dies and on and on....... crap.... this really adds up fast!!!!!!!!!! but whats ya going to do? anyways....

what do you guys think would be the opptimal twist for the 6x45. i am wanting to use bullets between 80 and 115 grn. i think i might be able to squeeze them into the mag.

also, which length barrel should be used? i was really really wanting a 16 or 18 inch, but i dont want the ballistics to suffer to much. would i lose a lot using the shorter barrel? or just a minimal amount? thanks, brian

I don't know the difference but I shoot an XP-100 that has been rebarreled to 6mm TCU. It is very accurate and easy to load for. Just size it and fireform. I like it so much I just ordered a T/C carbine barrel from Midway for my Contender frame.

The problem with trying to use the long heavy 6mm bullets in a 6x45 at the standard,2.26") AR magazine length is that you'll have to seat the bullets so deep that there will be no room left for the powder;)

Even if you were to seat a 115gr. bullet longer than magazine length to get some powder room there still wouldn't be enough space to load enough powder to give you the velocity needed to take advantage of this bullet.

The 6x45 had been tried in AR's a while back, but since the high-BC .224 bullets came out why bother? A 77gr SMK or 73gr Berger loaded to magazine length in a .223,5.56) will outshoot any 6mm bullet that you could load in that case at that length.

No sense in trying to reinvent the wheel :)

I have a 6X223 in a 17" TC and love it. i shoot bullet fron 55 gr to 85 gr. reloading is fast and easy no fire forming just size and shoot

I just bought a 6X45 40 deg shoulder in a rifle. I have had it out twice. Nice rifle not even in the same league with a 6 PPC, I have 6 PPC rifles with 20 something barrels.
I really like the 6x45 or 6 TCU as some call it. Made on a .223 case has some power. My gun is a Rem 722 action, factory tru-oiled stock, great wood, Douglas 21" barrel, factory trigger that breaks at 40 oz, this will be swapped out for a Rem 2 oz, I have had several scopes on the gun, now a Leupold 6.5x20.
Go for the cartridge you can do the 23 deg shoulder also. Look in the recent Hodgdon Reloader, has some nice stuff on the 6x45.
