6x45 small game load

Just to add some more versatility to the 6x45. I wanted to work up a load that was similar to a 22LR. My rifle is a REM 700 so this would not cycle an AR. Hodgdon has reduced loads for the .223 using Titegroup. So that is where I started. I chose the Speer 75hp. Very inexpensive. I started with 4.0 grains and got a very mild 1032 fps. I stepped up to 5.0 grains and I was very happy with 1,330 fps. 25 yard groups can be covered with a dime. 50 yard groups under a quarter. Minute of squirrel.

65 VMAX over 10 grains Lil Gun gets me about 1900 FPS out of a 26 inch barrel. Very accurate at 200 yards. I use it for the high power division at Schuetzen matches. No recoil.

No, Titegroup is not supposed to be sensitive to light powder charges. I use it in 38 and 357 loads as well. Some powders need fillers to keep the powder charge near the primer.
It is commonly used in subsonic load for 300BO and even .308 Win with no filler. It always surprises me when you think about only 9gr-12gr of Titegroup in a .308 case.

I did similar with my 223 using Bluedot powder. 13grs with 40gr Vmax reaches 2900 fps and very very quiet. 50 yard groups are identical to yours. I was very pleasantly surprised.

For light loads for my .22 Hornet rifles, I like to use 4.0 grains of Unique with a 50 grain high velocity SP bullet. I also place a bit of cotton over the charge for better accuracy, which if great.
I also have a Winchester M-43 in .25-20 where I use 5.0 grains of Unique with a 75 grain flat-nosed bullet also placing as small bit of cotton over the charge. Also use a cast 85 grain bullet with 4.0 grains of Unique. Both loads are very accurate.
HOWEVER, I can't use these for hunting Small Game as in the State of Kentucky, centerfire cartridge are prohibited for hunting small game like Squirrels, only rimfires. :(

Same law here in Tennessee unless it’s deer season. I used to load a 55gr cast gas check bullet in a 22-250 with Unique.

I use to live in Indiana (my homestate); and Squirrel Hunters can use centerfires like the .22 Hornet or .25-20, along with other small caliber C.Fs to hunt small game with. Never could understand why Kentucky wouldn't allow hunting with such.
