I'm no expert about a 6ppc or making it's brass as I've never done it. But this has been mulled over several times in years past. If you look in the archives, you'll see a number of discussions by folks who've done it successfully (from 7.62 x 39 brass) and the process they used to get there. If you have problems finding the posts, you can just type in "6ppc" in a search engine and the forums will pop up for the Accurate Shooters.com posts from the past. Hope that helps.

I find it hard to believe that anybody has made 6PPC out of 7.62-39. Ive picked up a lot of brass
at the range and have only found a few brass cases that are 7.62-39 and they look like junk. Most people that load for 6PPC are looking for the ultimate in accuracy and the choice of brass is almost always Lapua or Norma 220 Russian. My friends buy several thousand at a time and sort it in to lots that weigh the same or very close to the same. I just don't see them going to all this trouble with the brass that is used to load for and AK47. I agree that it could be done and that it is the parent case, but the end result would not be what any benchrest shooter is looking for.

I have several thousand now on hand made from 7.62x39 PMC brass. There is some time involved in making the brass, kinda a labor of love or a Winter project. The rewards are great. There is lots of BS out there in terms of what works and does not work in terms of shooting tiny groups. When the PPC was being developed, testing done indicated that there was at MOST .035 difference between the large and small primer, so they went with the small primer. I shot registered BR, so I know what .035 is in registered matches. For the casual shooter, my PMC Brass, All would shoot minute of p. dog head at 300.

In my Panda, Hall M's, FDC and Rem 700's, the PMC brass will agg nearly the same as Lapua or sako, and the wind is much more of a factor than the brass choice. PMC will group tiny, tiny groups, make no mistake about it. I have also had a Sako Repeater with a hart barrel on it in 22ppc, it shot fantastic also. If you can't find PMC brass, would opt out of the project due to the fact That Rem, win, ImI, and Federal area All junk, soft in the case head.

After all the experimentation, I would say that the 223 AI is as accurate as the 22 ppc, and the AI is faster. I do prefer the the 223 AI over the 22 PPC.

I shot AA2230 in my 6 PPC with my own 60g Bullets with CCI 200's at 3550 fps, barrel life is fantastic with this combo, with accuracy hovering around .200 and sometimes much smaller. At 8000 rounds through the last Hart 14 twist barrel, the agg of 18 five shot groups was .285(playing with powder charges, also), you won't get this using T32, n133, or 8208!

So, for a guy that likes to play, picking up range brass, sizing it with a small base sizer, then the forming, and case trimming, he can end up with some very accurate brass, even if it has been shot through an AK47.
I call this tinkering on your gun hobby.

I would never advise anyone to use 7.62x39 brass in a match, use Lapua or Sako for that application.

it is not worth the effort to make ppc out of 7.62X39, I tried it.

it is one heck of a lot of work, but if you need 2000 cases for a p. dog rifle, have PMC 7.62x39 brass...retired...it is just a thang...

6ppc was made from Sako 220 Russian case and when that ran out 20 some years ago and if you want a case you use 7.62x39. Lapua was in the works but wasn't shipped yet.

The main reason I ask, Lapua at Brownells currently 220 Rus. $109.95, 7.62x39 $59.95 that is a big savings, since it has to be neck turned anyway? what do you think?
